Solid First Showing For IUTF At The Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Track & Field kicked off the 2021 indoor season by hosting the annual Hoosier Open on Friday night inside Gladstein Field House.
KEY MOMENTS
• Rikkoi Brathwaite threw down a time of 6.54 in the 60m dash to set a new personal, school, meet, and facility record. His time is the fastest in the NCAA so far this season.
• The Hoosiers swept the 60m hurdle final with Hope Purcell winning the women's race in a personal best time of 8.53 while Shaton Vaughn won the men's competition in a time of 8.38. Vaughn also went on to win the 400m and set the meet record at 48.13.
• Indiana saw a 1-2-3 sweep of the men's mile with Ben Veatch taking first place in a meet record time of 4:05.46. Dustin Horter (4:05.54) and Gabriel Sanchez (4:07.20) rounded out the trio.
• Morgan Snow came out swinging in the 200m where she won the race in a time of 24.51.
• Janii Jenkins (56.21), Lauren Thomas (56.22), and Kaylee Lane (56.41) took the top three spots in the 400m, respectively.
• Maria Anderson had a strong performance in the 500m as she took the victory in a time of 1:13.20. On the men's side, Parker Raymond raced to a time of 1:03.95 to pick up the win.
• Indiana saw four runners finish first through fourth in the women's 1000m. Kelly Mindak led the way with a personal record time of 2:47.02
• Arjun Jha won the 5000m and picked up a time of 14:03.79.
• The Hoosiers swept the 3000m with Sarah Schmitt winning the women's race and Jake Gebhardt taking the victory in the men's field. Schmitt saw a time of 9:32.97while Gebhardt crossed in a personal record time of 8:14.61.
• The men's and women's 4x400-meter relay squad rounded out the night on the oval by both picking up the victory.
• Jayden Ulrich highlighted the field events with her personal best heave of 16.68m (54' 8.75") in the shot put. This was the first victory of her young Indiana career.
• Mahogany Jenkins leaped an impressive 1.81m (5' 11.25") to win the high jump and set a new personal record in the event. Tyray Lackey won the men's competition with a height of 2.04m (6' 8.25").
• Ryan Lipe and Windsor Roberts swept the pole vault competition. Lipe made his Indiana debut by clearing a height of 5.30m (17' 4.5").
• JaiQuan Earls picked up a mark of 14.39m (47' 3.25") in the triple jump to take home the win.
NOTABLES
• Jenna Barker set a personal best in the 1000m with a time of 2:50.28.
• Keelan Grant crushed his personal record by crossing the 3000m in a time of 8:24.55. Austin Haskett also saw a personal record in the event with a time of 8:20.31.
• In her first ever weight throw, Makayla Hunter captured silver with a mark of 18.72m (61' 5").
• Four newcomers won their respective events on Friday night. Ryan Lipe (Pole Vault), Windsor Roberts (Pole Vault), Jayden Ulrich (Shot Put), and Tyray Lackey (High Jump) all walked away with victories.
UP NEXT
The Hoosiers will return in the new year when they travel to Michigan for the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday January 15.
