
Indiana Falls to Northwestern in 2021 Season Opener, 1-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – Indiana women's soccer (0-1-0) fell to Northwestern (1-0-0) in its season opener on Saturday night at Ryan Fieldhouse, 1-0.
KEY MOMENTS
• In the opening frame, a couple of sophomore midfielders took a few shots at the Wildcats. The first was taken first by Alaina Kalin in the 7th minute of play but went wide. Avery Lockwood followed that up with an attempted header off a corner kick in the 8th minute, but it was saved by the Wildcat's goalkeeper.
• Junior defender Oliwia Wos had a good look in the 24th minute, but it went left of the net.
• In the second half, Indiana saw another three shots on target. Lockwood had a good look in the 48th minute, but Wildcat goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood was there for the save.
• Wos also fired up chances two more times in the 58th and 65th minute of play but couldn't get it to the back of the net.
• Northwestern sophomore Aurea Martin scored the only goal of the night in the 85th minute, which proved to be the gamewinner.
NOTABLES
• The Hoosiers are now 17-9-3 in season openers.
• Wos led Indiana with three shots, two on goal. Lockwood also recorded two shots on goal.
• Indiana saw four freshmen record their first career start on Saturday in Anna Aehling, Anna Bennett, Gabi Rennie and Jen Blitchok. Sofia Black also saw her first action as a Hoosier as she played 20 minutes off the bench.
• Senior goalkeeper Bethany Kopel was tested early as she had four saves in the first half. She finished with five on the night.

• Indiana will return to Bloomington for their season home opener as they take on Rutgers at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25th.
