Bebej Scores First-Career Brace
MADISON, Wis. – No. 23 Indiana (3-1-0) used three second half goals to pull away from the Wisconsin Badgers (0-5-0) at the Rec Well Turf Fields on Thursday afternoon. IU won the match by a final count of 4-0.
KEY MOMENTS
• Wisconsin snuck in an early chance off a Hoosier breakdown in the defensive backline. Junior forward Noah Melick of the Badgers wedged himself between two IU defenders and fired a right-footed shot from 18 yards out. The shot sailed slightly wide of frame.
• At the 26-minute mark, sophomore midfielder Brett Bebej scored the first goal of the match off a set piece. He corralled a loose ball in the box and fired a header that deflected off a Badger defender and found the back of the net.
• Sophomore forward Victor Bezerra nearly doubled the Hoosier lead in the 34th minute of the first half. He had a one-on-one chance, shook his defender, and let a shot rip from just outside the 18-yard box. Wisconsin's grad student goalie Sven Kleinhans was up to the task and made the save.
• Wisconsin registered another dangerous look late in the first 45 minutes of play. Once again, Melick was able to get a shot off right in front of goal. Sophomore keeper Roman Celentano dove on the shot to record his first save of the match.
• Sophomore forward Herbert Endeley capped off a beautiful build-up from the Hoosier attack to score his first goal of the season in the 47th minute. Redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass drove the ball up the left sideline and delivered a pass to Bebej. The goal-scorer tapped the ball to senior midfielder A.J. Palazzolo, who redirected the pass to Bezerra. The Chicago native lofted a crossing pass to Endeley streaking down the right flank. Endeley gathered and beat the keeper to the bottom right corner of goal to put Indiana up 2-0.
• Bebej delivered his second goal of the match on another corner kick setup from Glass. The service cleared the masses right in front of the goal and found Bebej just left of frame, who headed the ball into the back of the net in the 54th minute.
• Freshman defender Joey Maher polished off the Indiana scoring with a third set piece goal for the Hoosier offense. After the corner kick from redshirt junior midfielder Joe Schmidt cleared the mass of bodies, Maher snuck behind the defense and guided the ball to the back of the net in the 81st minute.
NOTABLES
• Both Bebej and Maher scored their first career goals in the victory.
