Hoosiers Complete Day One at NCAA Championships

ST. LOUIS – All three Indiana wrestlers picked up victories on day one and are still alive heading into the second day at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Notes
• Cayden Rooks earned his first NCAA Championships victory with a 10-1 major decision in the prelim.
• Rooks led 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 after the second period. In the third period he got a takedown and a near fall to go up 9-1 and added a point with riding time.
• Graham Rooks led 4-1 in his first match against No. 12 seed Max Murin. After two it was tied 4-4. Rooks got a reversal to go up 6-4. Murin scored on an escape, take down and caution to go up 7-6. Rooks tied it with an escape to make it 7-7, but Murin added a point with riding time.
• After being taken down to start his match, at the 2:44 mark, Donnell Washington responded with a takedown 21 second later. Washington added an escape and riding time bonus in the third period to secure the win.
• Graham Rooks tallied three takedowns on his way to a 9-1 major decision over Peyton Omania. The matchup was a re-match from the Big Ten Championships.
• Cayden Rooks scored four points in the third period to take a 6-1 decision over McKenzie Bell.
• Donnell Washington trailed ACC Champion Daniel Bullard 4-0 going into the third period. Washington got a takedown and nearfall to tie it 4-4 but Bullard scored on an escape and riding time to secure a 6-4 decision.
