
No. 9 Indiana Adds Two Individuals to Evening Finals

Capobianco Aims for 1-Meter Gold
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana University men's swimming and diving team began preliminary competition at the 2021 NCAA Championships on Thursday morning at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
500 FREESTYLE
Redshirt sophomore Michael Brinegar finished second in his heat and 37th overall in the %00 Freestyle prelims with a time of 4:19.58. Junior Mikey Calvillo, a late addition to the meet, placed 51st with a time of 4:22.90.
200 IM
Junior Van Mathias finished 26th in the 200 IM prelims with a time of 1:44.98, while senior Jacob Steele touched the wall in 1:44.96 to place 32nd.
50 FREESTYLE
Junior Jack Franzman earned a spot in the 50 Freestyle Consolation Final with a 12th-place finish at 19.21.
1-METER DIVE
Redshirt junior Andrew Capobianco punched his ticket into the Championship Final of the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 369.80. He will be seeded fifth in the final tonight.
Capobianco hit five dives over 60 points on the scorecards, including a huge effort of 78.20 on his final attempt to solidify his spot in the A Final. He will look to carry the momentum of his final three attempts (totaled 204.20 points) into the evening final.
Junior Cole VanDevender scored 282.00 points on his six dives to finish 32nd.
