Goodin Records Strikeout 500, Indiana Takes Series Opener 4-1 over Ohio State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Behind senior pitcher Emily Goodin's gem in the circle, IU took a 4-1 victory over Ohio State to open a four-game set at Andy Mohr Field on Friday.
With the victory, IU improved to 12-13 on the season and in conference play while Ohio State dropped to 13-11 on the season and in conference play.
KEY MOMENTS
• Senior Grayson Radcliffe struck a double over the head of the Ohio State shortstop and into the left-centerfield gap for the first IU baserunner of the day.
• Freshman Grace Lorsung got IU on the board with a grounder to the Ohio State shortstop that was mishandled and allowed Radcliffe to score from second base.
• Goodin forced Ohio State into a dribbler back to the circle with two outs and the bases loaded to escape the second-inning jam.
• Ohio State added a run to the board in the top of the fourth inning to level the score at one.
• Radcliffe made a diving play to her left at third base to snag a liner in mid-air and keep Ohio State off the base path in the top of the fifth inning.
• Seniors Taylor Lambert and Gabbi Jenkins added back-to-back hits in the bottom of the fifth inning.
• IU took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Radcliffe singled through the right side to score Lambert. • Goodin escaped a sixth-inning jam by striking out Ohio State's Tegan Cortelletti with two runners in scoring position and two outs to preserve IU's 3-1 lead.
• IU extended its lead once more when freshman Brooke Benson singled up the middle to bring home fellow freshman Aaliyah Andrews for a 4-1 lead.

• Goodin earned her 500th career strikeout when she sat down Ohio State's Niki Carver swinging in the top of the third inning. She is the sixth IU pitcher to record 500 strikeouts in her career. Goodin now has 504 career strikeouts.
