"I am very proud of how our whole team performed this weekend. We have had to handle some adversity the past two weeks, but the athletes really stayed focused on their training during that time and it really showed this weekend. I believe 13 of 16 schools racing this weekend were ranked in the Top 20, so to achieve the results we did was very exciting. We still have some areas of our race plan that we can and need to improve upon to really reach our full potential by Big Tens, but to be where we are at right now is a good sign."
Katherine Nelson, freshman, coxswain, Varsity 8
"It was definitely a mini-Big Tens and we saw a lot of schools we will see in the Big Ten Championships in May. The Saturday morning race (against Syracuse, UVA and Ohio State) was pretty difficult, but we came in third and it felt really strong. In the afternoon, the whole team had a sweep and it was pretty awesome. We went against Minnesota and Louisville and it really gave us a taste of what we could do. I'm not sure we all had the same perspective on how strong we really are but I think coming out of Saturday afternoon it really gave us the confidence boost to help us realize our full potential. On Sunday morning, the 1V8 we worked on keeping our length and establishing a bit rhythm right off the bat. I would say we focused on the first 1,500 meters of all of the races. We kept it very strong throughout. We did a really good job of coming out strong at the start and staying internal and keeping our focus and what we had been taking from practice into a race day setting."

"I would say Saturday and Sunday morning were both similar. It was pretty calm. I don't have any complaints about that. It was low winds and the water was awesome. Saturday afternoon I think we got pretty lucky because when we launched it was pretty challenging to just get out there to the warm-up area. I think all of us were getting a little bit antsy because we only had 500 meters up and down to practice in before getting on the course and it was inside of a cove that was unsheltered so it was pretty windy and rough waters. All of us were prepping and mentally getting ready to give our best efforts in the first 1,500 and in the last 500 just getting ready to handle the conditions the best we can but not depend on that to win. Coming down on the race course, we didn't have many issues. It was some kind of miracle that the wind just let up just for about 10 minutes. It was pretty awesome. I kept getting ready to tell my crew to brace for wind, sit up, swing in to it, but we never had to do that on the course."

"In the morning on Saturday we started of very strong and we held it throughout the race. We were racing against Iowa, who we had raced a couple weeks earlier at Ohio State; so we knew we had a challenge ahead of us. Going in to the afternoon, we raced against them again and definitely in the afternoon, our base pace – our middle 1,000 – was definitely very strong and we held our base pace well and finished very strong and able to hold off the other boats to get a win in the afternoon.
