No. 15 Indiana Falls Late to No. 1 USC

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In a tense, back and forth Friday morning match, the No. 15-ranked Indiana University water polo team dropped a tight match 10-8 to the No. 1 Southern California Trojans.
Following the close loss, the Hoosiers fall to 8-9 on the season overall and to 0-5 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play, while USC takes its record to 11-0 and to 5-0 in league action.
KEY MOMENTS
• IU and USC played a close first period that ended with junior goalkeeper Mary Askew scoring from long range as the buzzer sounded to level the score at one.
• Junior Izzy Mandema scored with 4:51 left in the second period to tie the match at two before USC closed out the half on a 4-0 run.
• Askew scored her second of the game early in the second half to bring IU within 6-3. Freshman Kallie White followed that up with a goal at the 6:05 mark to make it a 6-4 game.
• Sophomore Lanna Debow scored on the powerplay with 2:20 left in the third period to halt a 2-0 USC run.
• Mandema scored once more late in the third period to force a USC timeout and bring IU within two goals.
• White and Mandema added another goal each in the fourth period to bring the game within one at the 5:33 mark in the fourth period.
• USC scored another at the 4:51 mark to give it a 10-8 lead.
• Despite a number of close chances, IU couldn't find the two goals it needed to bring the score level late in the match.

• Mandema recorded a hat-trick, bringing her season tally to a team-high 47 goals on the campaign.
• Askew's two goals were a career-best, bringing her total to three on the season. She also made six saved for the Hoosiers.
• White added another two goals, taking her season total to 15.
• Mandema matched her career-best with three steals.
