Series at Illinois Next for Indiana Softball

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball (14-14, 14-14 Big Ten) and winners of six of their last eight games will travel to Illinois (18-10, 18-10) this week for a series against the Fighting Illini.
First Pitch
The series will kick off on Friday, April 23 with a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. ET. The series will resume on Sunday April 25 for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. ET.
Checking Out The Competition
The Fighting Illini come in with an overall record of 18-10 after winning three of four against Purdue last time out. Avrey Steiner leads Illnois in hitting with a .369 batting average and 38 hits with five extra base knocks. Kailee Powell is hitting .353 on the season with three home runs and a .600 slugging percentage. In the circle the Fighting Illini are led by Sydney Sickels with a 10-2 record on the season and a 1.14 era. Sickels has pitched 85.2 innings with 109 strikeouts and 20 walks.
Last Time Out
Indiana won their second straight series by taking three of four against Ohio State. The Hoosiers shutout the Buckeyes in games two and four. Emily Goodin went 3-1 as she pitched 21.1 innings with an era of 0.84 and 22 strikeouts. Goodin pitched complete games in each of her three wins. Gabbi Jenkins tore it up at the plate for the Hoosiers with a .714 battling average and 1.000 slugging percentage. Jenkins had 10 hits in 14 at bats with four doubles, five runs and six RBI. Prior to the Hoosiers game against Ohio State on Sunday, Jenkins was presented the Hoosier Golden Shoe Award for breaking the IU program record for career stolen bases. Freshman Grace Lorsung hit her third home run of the season to bring the Hoosiers back from an 8-2 deficit to tie the game 9-9 on a three-run shot. Although the Hoosiers lost 10-9 in extra innings, they showed great fight.

• Gabbi Jenkins leads the Big Ten and NCAA in stolen bases in a single game with six. Jenkins leads the Big Ten with 21 stolen bases. Jenkins ranks 11th in the NCAA in stolen bases per game.
• Jenkins was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on April 20.
• Jenkins has 93 career stolen bases and broke the record of 90 set by Aimee Lonigro in 1996. She broke the program single game stolen base record already this year with six against Rutgers on Mar. 13.
• As a team, the Hoosiers ranks fourth in the country in stolen bases at 2.79 per game. Indiana is +44 in stolen bases vs. their opponent this season.
• The Hoosiers have stolen 72 bases on the season in 91 attempts.
• Grayson Radcliffe leads the Hoosiers in RBI with 17.
• Gabbi Jenkins ranks fifth in the Big Ten in hits with 33 on the season.
