
Shepherd Surges in the Second Round of the Big Ten Championship

CARMEL, Ind. – Indiana men's golf continued action in the 2021 Big Ten Championship with the second round on Saturday at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Senior Ethan Shepherd carded a 1-over 71 to move into the top 10 as he is tied for ninth place.

• Indiana started play on the No. 10 tee.
• As a team, the Hoosiers improved by nine strokes from the opening round.
• Shepherd's 71 was the best score for a Hoosier so far this weekend and was an eight-stroke improvement from his first round. He was 1-over through the back nine, collecting a pair of birdies. He birdied No. 1 and then ended the round with an eagle on the 530-yard No. 9 hole.
• Freshman Drew Salyers ended the day tied for 26th after shooting a 4-over 76, two strokes better than yesterday. He ran into some trouble at the start of the round, carding a pair of 6's on No. 12 and 13. However, he recovered nicely as he picked up four birdies in the round.
• Freshman Clay Merchent also carded a 76 on Saturday and is tied for 30th place. He was strongest on the back nine, starting out with pars on the first five holes before picking up a birdie on No. 15.
• Junior Mitch Davis was also best on the back nine as he made the turn at 4-over. He ended the round with an 83 and is tied for 49th place.
• Sophomore Eric Berggren subbed in to the team lineup for Harry Reynolds. Berggren shot a 79 on Saturday, including a birdie on No. 15.
