CARY, N.C. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana men's soccer team (11-1-2) defeated No. 6 Seton Hall (10-2-4) by a score of 2-0 in the 2020 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals at WakeMed Field on Monday evening.
KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore Maouloune Goumballe broke into the box in the 24th minute but his cut-back pass couldn't find any IU attackers.
• Sophomore forward Victor Bezerra took a clever pass from redshirt sophomore Ryan Wittenbrink onto his right foot and earned a free kick after being brought down right outside the box in the 28th minute.
• Wittenbrink tried to pick out Goumballe in the box but he couldn't get his head to the cross in the middle of the first half.
• With the clock stopped in the 42nd minute, there was a lengthy (40 minutes) weather delay due to lightning and rain.
• Right after the delay, Wittenbrink tallied his first goal of the NCAA Tournament with a right-footed finish into the bottom corner of the net to give IU a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute.
• Sophomore goalie Roman Celentano was tested for the first time in the second half in the 53rd minute but he was calm to make the save on his line.
• IU took a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute when Goumballe played a ball across the front of goal for senior forward Thomas Warr to tap into the back of the net.
• IU held off a flurry of Seton Hall chances over the final 30 minutes to preserve the victory and the clean sheet.
