Day Two of B1G Championships In The Books For The Hoosiers

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Indiana Track & Field completed the second day of the 2021 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday night. Seven captured points for the Hoosiers while another six advanced to the finals of their respective events.
Alyssa Robinson competed in her second events of the championships after qualifying for the 200m final on Friday night. Robinson went 11.71 in the prelim of the 100m to reach Sunday's event final.
Natalie Price was all smiles and advanced to the final of the 400m after winning her heat with a time of 53.45. Price also qualified for the final of 200m.
Sitting in seventh on the final lap of the 800m prelims, Teddy Browning started to make a move on the back stretch to try and capture the automatic qualifying spot. Coming down to the last 100m, Browning propelled himself past the final competitor to get the auto bid to Sunday's final. The Carmel, Ind. native clocked an outdoor personal best with a time of 1:49.38.
On the women's side of the 800m prelims, Kelly Mindak earned an auto qualifying spot in the final with a time of 2:06.19. Kelsey Harris and Joely Pinkston will also appear in the 800m final after clocking a time of 2:06.19 and 2:06.76, respectively.
The men's steeplechase final was the last event on the oval under the lights on Saturday night. Jake Gebhardt and Austin Haskett both ran a personal best and scored points for Indiana in the men's race. Gebhardt clocked a time of a 8:53.61 for sixth while Haskett crossed eighth in a time of a 8:59.05.
Khayla Dawson took silver in the shot put with a heave of 18.37m (60' 3.25") while Maddy Pollard put a mark of 16.92m (55' 6.25") to place sixth. The duo raked in 11 points for the Indiana women. Dawson and Pollard will complete their stint at the championships on Sunday in the discus.
Leah Moran competed in her first of two events at the championships to wrap up the day for the Hoosiers in the field. In the long jump, Moran walked away with silver and a mark of 6.22m (20' 5"). She will return on Sunday where she will look to defend her outdoor conference title in the triple jump from 2019.
Hope Purcell returned for the final day of the heptathlon on Saturday afternoon. Purcell took sixth place overall with a personal best 5,231 points. She started the day by taking third in the long jump with a mark of 5.73m (18' 9.75"). She earned 768 points towards the event total. The Lancaster, Ohio native recorded a personal record in the javelin with a heave of 35.77m (117' 4") for 586 points. She rounded out the heptathlon in the 800m where Purcell recorded a time of 2:30.30.
Indiana will wrap up the Big Ten Outdoor Championships Sunday afternoon. Dawson and Pollard in the discus along with Anna Watson and Kara Deady in the pole vault will get the final day started for the Hoosiers beginning at 12 p.m. ET.
