
IUTF Contends at Big Ten Outdoor Championships This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Track & Field will pave its postseason path beginning with the 2021 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Champaign, Ill. this weekend. The championships are scheduled to begin on Friday May 14 and conclude on Sunday May 16. Illinois will play host at their newly built Demirjian Park.
Meet Information
For one time only the championships will stream live for free on Big Network Plus. The Big Ten will provide separate streams for track events and field events all three days. Live results of the meet can also be found here.
Last Time Out: B1G Indiana Invite #4
The Hoosiers concluded the regular season at home April 30 and May 1. 15 Hoosiers set personal bests while nine won their respective events. Nathan Stone was welcomed to the 18' club after clearing a height of 5.50m (18' 0.5"). Sarah Schmitt crushed her previous personal best of 16:37.62 with a time of 16:13.39 in the 5000m. Kelly Mindak saw her first victory of the season in the 800m with a personal record time of 2:05.06.
Setting the Record Straight
Two Hoosiers have broken program records so far this outdoor season. Bailey Hertenstein set the school record in the 5000m on April 16 with her time of 15:38.01. Khayla Dawson heaved a distance of 18.91m (62' 5") in the shot put on May 1 to improve on her school record. The mark was the No. 2 mark in the US and No. 6 in the world so far this year. It is also the new Big Ten record all-time and No. 6 all time in the NCAA.
Dawson Honored
Khayla Dawson was tabbed for Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, May 5 after her monstrous weekend at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #4/Billy Hayes Invite. Dawson heaved a put of 18.91m (62' 5") for the win with a Big Ten, facility and personal record.
