Freshman Madi Anderson, Novice 8
On the third-place finish and what worked well out on the water…
"We definitely have been working on getting out blades in the water and driving down the legs. I think those technique changes that we made helped for our success, but also the confidence and trust we have for each other. We went into this race knowing that we had a chance to medal. I think that attitude brought us to the finish line."
On the race overall and where you thought you made the biggest push…
"We definitely started off very strong and we were with the boats in the front, and around the middle part we were neck and neck with Wisconsin, but then they made a move. We realized we had to respond to that move. So, I think towards the end, especially our sprint, the last 250 meters we were back and forth. They had a seat then we had a seat. The last 250 and last 100, we had to go, and that resulted in the photo finish. It's the last stroke where we gave it our all. We had a harder last stroke, and that's what gave us the finish."
On how it feels to go out on a high note after a season of unknown…
"It feels like it's all worth it. As we came off the water, as we said it was all worth it. We were on cloud nine. That last moment when we realized we crossed the finish, although it was a photo finish, our coxswain knew where she was with the other boat. It's that feeling of all that hard work was worth it, and that is what got us across the finish line."
Freshman Niamh Monk, First Varsity 4
What was it like out on the water and what did you like from your boat today?
"The race was super controlled today, lovely water. We couldn't ask for anything more. We came out of the block a lace quarter break hold and we set into our rhythm. It was comfortable, so we are super stoked."
On the conditions being ideal for racing…
"100 percent. We couldn't ask for anything more. We are really happy with the weather today."
On what the race provided for you in preparation for the NCAA Tournament…
"We are a young crew, in terms of only being together for a couple of weeks, so we took that as a positive. We haven't really raced many crews with this line up, so we thought they wouldn't see where we are coming from with this line up. We wanted to get out there and have a super controlled race knowing that we are going forward into NCAA's."
