#IUMS Uses 3-1 Edge in PKs to Move Past St. Francis Brooklyn
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana men's soccer team (9-1-2) advanced by St. Francis Brooklyn (6-1-3) after securing a 3-1 advantage in PKs following a 1-1 (2OT) draw in the second round of the 2020 NCAA Tournament at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday evening.
KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore forward Herbert Endeley won a free kick in the 18th minute but sophomore forward Victor Bezerra's cross into the box couldn't find any IU players.
• Endeley had the first real chance on goal for the Hoosiers but his shot went over the net, never testing the St. Francis Brooklyn goalkeeper.
• Redshirt sophomore forward Ryan Wittenbrink cut into the 18-yard box on his right foot in the 23rd minute. His attempt to curl the ball into the top right of the net went wide.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Roman Celentano made a composed save in the 25th minute to keep the Terriers away from goal.
• Bezerra opened the scoring for IU on Sunday evening. Redshirt senior forward A.J. Palazzolo laid a ball to Bezerra who struck it into the net off a deflection to give IU a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.
• Senior forward Thomas Warr went for the spectacular in the 37th minute but his bicycle-kick went just over the top of the net.
• Sessock had a run in on goal in the 68th minute but his shot soared over the top of the net.
• Celentano was quick to react on his line in the 71st minute. He made a kick save to keep IU in the lead late in the match.
• The Terriers equalized in the 78th minute.
• After 90 minutes, both teams were locked at a goal a piece.
• Early in the first overtime, Bezerra flicked a shot on goal but his effort was met by the goalkeeper.
• Celentano came off his line in the 105th minute to grab a shot that was heading for the top right corner of the net.
• In penalty kicks, Celentano saved three attempts from St. Francis. Wittenbrink's penalty kick proved to be the winner for IU.
NOTABLES
• IU has now made the Sweet 16 in six-straight seasons. It's IU's longest streak since making the NCAA Third Round every season from 1988-2004 (17-straight seasons).
• This was freshman defender Lawson Redmon's first career start.
• Bezerra first-half goal means he has now scored or assisted in nine-straight games and 11 of 12 on the season. He also has the most goals (12) in a single season by an IU player since Eriq Zavaleta (18) in 2012.
• This was the first result in program history against a team currently in the North Eastern Conference (NEC).
• This was IU's first advancement by penalties during the NCAA Tournament since IU moved past No. 7 Michigan State (1-1, 3-2) on Dec. 1, 2017.

The committees intend to provide some opportunity for family and friends to attend the championships. They will follow the NCAA Medical Advisory Group guidelines, and the maximum allowable capacity will be 25%.
