BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team earned a shutout win over Ohio State, 2-0, in Monday night at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind.
With the victory, the Hoosiers improve to 25-16 on the season overall and in Big Ten conference play. The Buckeyes fall to 20-19 on the year and in league action.
KEY MOMENTS
• After a scoreless first three innings, Indiana jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, INF Cole Barr earned an RBI with a fielder's choice to the shortstop, who made a diving play to get the runner out at third base to steal a hit away from Bart and prevent any further damage.
• INF Paul Toetz added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning for IU, making the lead 2-0 with an RBI single through the right side.
• RHP John Modugno (3-1) had a great start for the Hoosiers on the designated staff day, tossing four shutout innings to earn the win. He allowed just one hit and struck out three batters.
• RHP Grant Macciocchi earned his first career save, pitching the final three innings in shuout fashion. He surrendered just one hit and struck out three.
NOTABLES
• Indiana's shutout was the fourth of the season.
• IU allowed just two hits on the day, marking the sixth game this year they've limited opponents to two hits or less.
