
No. 2 Indiana Takes Down No. 19 Marquette 2-1 in Sweet 16

#IUMS Advances to NCAA Quarterfinal
CARY, N.C. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana men's soccer team (10-1-2) defeated No. 19 Marquette (8-3-2) by a score of 2-1 in the third round of the 2020 NCAA Tournament at WakeMed Field on Thursday evening.
KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore goalie Roman Celentano was quick to react in the sixth minute to save the early shot from Marquette.
• Sophomore defender Brett Bebej attempted to get a shot on net early on, but his effort was blocked after cutting into the box on his right foot.
• Redshirt sophomore forward Ryan Wittenbrink made an immediate impact upon his entrance to the game. His 26th minute attempt was the first real chance the Hoosiers had but it was deflected away by a Marquette defender.
• Marquette opened the scoring in the 44th minute with a strike from A.J. Franklin.
• Junior defender Nyk Sessock brought IU its first chance of the second half, but his shot sailed just to the left of the goal in the 54th minute.
• Sessock made a strong run down the right flank in the 66th minute. He played a cross into sophomore forward Victor Bezerra, but the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Year couldn't head it cleanly.
• Sophomore forward Herbert Endeley found IU's equalizer with a 71st minute goal off an assist from Bezerra.
• Redshirt junior Joe Schmidt fired on goal from just outside the 18-yard box but his attempt was blocked away by the Marquette defense.
• Sophomore forward Maouloune Goumballe scored an 80th-minute winner to help IU advance to the Elite Eight. Wittenbrink did well to keep the ball alive deep in the Marquette half and played a cross through the 6-yard box that Goumballe managed to deflect into the goal.

• IU has made the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth time under head coach Todd Yeagley. Each of the previous three times ended in runs to the College Cup, including a national title victory in 2012.
• Bezerra's assist to Endeley means he has now recorded at least one point in 10-straight games and 12-of-13 on the season.
• Endeley's equalizer was his third goal of the season and Goumballe's winner was his second goal on the campaign.
• IU improves to 11-0-1 all-time against Marquette after Thursday night's 2-1 Sweet 16 victory.

The committees intend to provide some opportunity for family and friends to attend the championships. They will follow the NCAA Medical Advisory Group guidelines, and the maximum allowable capacity will be 25%.
