Indiana to Play No. 6 Seton Hall for Spot in College Cup
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (10-1-2) take on the No. 6-ranked Seton Hall Pirates (10-1-4) in the 2020-21 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals at 5 p.m. ET on May 10 at WakeMed Field in Cary, N.C. The winner of the match will advance to the College Cup. A stream of the match will be available at NCAA.com.
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Indiana has won the NCAA championship eight times in the program's storied history and have made an NCAA record 20 College Cup appearances.
• IU is one of three programs (Stanford and Wake Forest) to make the Sweet 16 every season since 2015.
• No program has more NCAA tourney victories (93) than the Hoosiers. UCLA (70) is second.
• The Hoosiers hold a record of 93-34-6 in the NCAA Tournament. The .721 winning percentage is the highest total of any program that has won more than 10 matches.
• IU last hosted the NCAA Championship trophy after defeating Georgetown by a score of 1-0 in 2012.
#IUMS B1G POSTSEASON AWARDS
• The Indiana men's soccer team cleaned up the 2020-21 Big Ten Conference postseason awards.
• Sophomore forward Victor Bezerra, sophomore keeper Celentano, and redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass earned All-Big Ten First Team plaudits, while sophomore midfielder Herbert Endeley and redshirt sophomore defender Daniel Munie were named to the 2020-21 All-Big Ten Second Team. Freshman defender Joey Maher was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
• Bezerra also earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors. He is the third Hoosier to garner the award as he joins Will Bruin (2010) and Eriq Zavaleta (2012). Celentano became the second IU keeper to be named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year (Trey Muse, 2018).
• Todd Yeagley was named Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time (2010, '18, '19). Yeagley joins his father, Jerry Yeagley, as the only coaches in Big Ten program history to earn the accolade in three-consecutive seasons. Jerry achieved the feat from 2001-03.
OTHER NOTES
• The Hoosiers have not suffered a loss in nine-straight matches, the longest active streak in the Big Ten and the program's longest streak without a loss since the 2018 (Oct. 3-Nov. 30) campaign. The '18 team went 11-0-1 before the season ended in NCAA College Cup.
• Head coach Todd Yeagley earned his 150th-career win on March 23.
• Under the direction of Yeagley, the Hoosiers have compiled an NCAA Tournament record of 16-9-2. IU captured the program's eighth star in 2012 with a 1-0 triumph over Georgetown in Hoover, Ala.
• In the last 44 Big Ten regular season matches Indiana holds a record of 33-2-9. IU is 10-0-6 in the Big Ten Tournament since 2015.
• Redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass suffered a season-ending injury (tibia) against No. 11 Michigan.
• Indiana is playing in the program's 28th NCAA Quarterfinal Appearance and attempting to qualify for a 21st berth into the College Cup, the most of any NCAA team.
LAST TIME OUT
• The third-seeded Hoosiers advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament by way of a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against No. 19 Marquette in the third round on Thursday night in Cary.
• The Golden Eagles were the first to the scoreboard in the 44th minute of play when AJ Franklin let go a laser from outside the 18-yard box on a counterattack.
• Endeley found the equalizer for the Hoosiers in the 71st minute off a beautiful touch from Bezerra. The Blaine, Minn., native gathered and easily beat the keeper on the ground to level the score at 1-1.
• Nine minutes later, sophomore forward Maouloune Goumballe cleaned up a rebound off the near post to score the sliding winner in the 80th minute.
• Celentano made one of his three saves in the 84th minute to preserve the Indiana win.
ABOUT THE PIRATES
• The Seton Hall Pirates, coached by Andreas Lindberg, will be playing in the NCAA Quarterfinal Round for the first time since 1988 after taking down Virginia Tech (7-6) in PKs on Thursday night. The Pirates beat Air Force, 2-1, in their second-round matchup.
• The 6th-ranked team in the country boasts a record of 10-1-4 and won the Big East tournament title. The Pirates are led by junior forward CJ Tibbling. The All-Big East First Team player scored seven goals to go along with three assists and a team-high 17 points. Sophomore midfielder James Boote led the program with nine assists.
• Senior keeper Andreas Nota, an All-Big East Second Team performer, allowed 11 goals in 13 starts (9-1-3) this season. He has 41 saves to his credit (0.788 save percentage) to go along with six shutouts. He allowed at least one goal in seven of the team's last eight matches.
SERIES HISTORY
• The Hoosiers and Pirates will meet on the pitch for the third time in their respective histories and the first time since Nov. 27, 1988 when Indiana toppled Seton Hall by a score of 3-1 in the NCAA Quarterfinals to advance to the '88 College Cup. IU would go win the title later that season by defeating Portland (1-0) in the semis and Howard (1-0) in the title match.
• Indiana also won (3-2 OT) the first matchup between the two squads on Oct. 3, 1987.
