
Indiana Sweeps Doubleheader, Four-Game Series from Penn State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana softball team (23-17) took a pair of games from Penn State on Saturday afternoon to complete the four-game sweep on the weekend. In the second game of the day, the Hoosiers won 17-0, collecting 19 hits, the second most in a game in their last 21 seasons. Gabbi Jenkins, who came into this weekend with no career home runs, hit two on the weekend, including a walk off on Friday night. The Hoosiers are now tied for fourth-place in the Big Ten.
Game One: Indiana 4, Penn State 1
KEY MOMENTS
• Senior catcher Bella Norton got the Hoosiers on the board in the first inning with a groundout to shortstop that scored fellow senior and outfielder Gabbi Jenkins.
• Freshman shortstop Brooke Benson gunned down a Penn State runner at the plate with Norton applying the tag to keep the Nittany Lions off the board in the top of the third inning.
• Jenkins extended the IU lead in the third inning with a single through the left side to bring around senior outfielder Taylor Lambert.
• Freshman catcher Grace Lorsung responded to Penn State's run in the fourth by doubling to right-center field to bring Norton around to score. Senior infielder Katie Lacefield tallied another in the same inning with a hit to bring Lorsung in to score.
• Senior pitcher Emily Goodin retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to earn another complete game and a 4-1 victory.
NOTABLES
• Goodin (15-12) tossed another complete game for the Hoosiers. She went seven innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight. It was her fifth complete game in her last six outings.
• Jenkins went 3-for-4 in the first game, her fifth three-hit game of the season.
Game Two: Indiana 17, Penn State 0
KEY MOMENTS
• Norton continued her impressive day by hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give IU the early lead.
• Senior infielder Annika Baez tallied a long shot of her own in the bottom of the third inning to extend IU's lead to 3-0.
• The Hoosiers offense exploded in the bottom of the second inning. Lorsung added two more RBI's off a double to left-center field while graduate infielder Micah Schroder singled to bring two more around to score.
• Junior utility player Brittany Ford continued the hot hitting with a two-run double to extend IU's lead to 10-0. IU brought 12 batters to the plate in the second inning to the tune of eight runs.
• Junior utility player Juvia Davis homered to right-center field in the bottom of the third inning to add two more runs for the Hoosiers.
• Jenkins went deep in the fourth inning on a three-run home run to give IU a 17-0 lead.

• Most runs in a single game for IU since scoring 23 runs on 3/24/17 against Rutgers.
• The 19 hits are tied for the second most in a game since 2000.
• IU hit four home runs, the second most in a single game by IU since 2007.
