Olympic Trials Come To Close For IUTF

EUGENE, Ore. – The U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials came to end this past weekend where Indiana Track & Field saw seven current and past members across four events compete during weekend two.
Khayla Dawson, Maddy Pollard, and alumni Monique Riddick kicked off the action on Thursday, June 24 in the shot put qualifying round. Dawson heaved it a mark of 18.06m (59' 3") to advance to the final along with Riddick who had a season best put of 17.36m (56' 11.5").
In the final late Thursday night, Dawson placed sixth overall with her mark of 18.17m (59' 7.5") while Riddick took ninth and had another season best put of 17.63m (57' 10.25").
Also competing on Thursday night, Sydney Clute and Sophie Gutermuth saw competition in the pole vault qualifying round. Both Gutermuth and Clute advance to the finals. In the final on Saturday night, Gutermuth ended in seventh after a personal best clearance of 4.50m (14' 9") while Walter took 12th with a clearing height of 4.35m (14' 3.25").
Daniel Michalski put all that he could into the 3000m steeplechase final on Friday night but finished just shy of the top three in fourth with a time of 8:22.54.
Friday night also brough the long jump qualifying final where Treyton Harris competed. Harris leaped a mark of 7.69m (25' 2.75") to place 16th in his first Olympic trials.
