
King, Lazor Medal in 200m Breaststroke Final

TOKYO – For the first time since the Olympic Games 2000 Sydney, two US women (Lilly King and Annie Lazor) claimed medals in the women's 200m Breaststroke at the Olympic Games 2020 Tokyo on Thursday night at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
King took the silver, while Lazor secured bronze in the event.
Through six days in the pool, the Hoosiers have collected eight total medals (2G, 4S, 2B). As a University, IU athletes have produced 112 total medals – 57 gold, 21 silver, and 34 bronze.
WOMEN'S 200M BREASTSTROKE
Lilly King earned her second medal of the Olympics by taking silver in the women's 200m Breaststroke with a personal best time of 2:19.92. The time is the 15th fastest time ever in the event and the second quickest time ever posted by an American swimmer.
King is the 17th swimmer in Olympic history to win medals in both breaststroke events in the Olympics and is the fifth American to accomplish the feat. She joins Sharon Wichman (1968), Anita Nall (1992), Amanda Beard (1996), and Rebecca Soni (2008 an '12) as the only US swimmers to double medal in breaststroke events in a single Olympic games.
The eight-time All-American is also the first Hoosier to win an Olympic medal in the women's 200m Breaststroke event.
Indiana Swim Club pro Annie Lazor took bronze in the event with a time of 2:20.84 in her lone individual event at the 2020 Olympics. Lazor and King earned the 13th and 14th Olympic medals in US swimming history in the event, respectively. The Americans have posted four golds, seven silvers, and three bronze medals in the event.
MEN'S 100M BUTTERFLY
Sophomore-to-be Tomer Frankel finished 21st overall in the men's 100m Butterfly, his first career Olympic individual race, with a time of 51.99.
Vini Lanza closed out his 2020 Olympic individual race list with a 26th-place finish at 52.08 in the event.

Action begins with preliminary action in the men's 50m Freestyle (Ali Khalafalla) at 6 a.m. ET before transitioning to prelims of the men's 1500m Freestyle (Michael Brinegar and Marwan Elkamash) at 8:40 a.m. ET. IU could also be represented in the relays with both the women's and men's 400m Medley Relay events being contested.
