Bezerra, Glass Named CoSIDA Academic All-America®
7/6/2021 12:00:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore forward Victor Bezerra and redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass were each named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division I men's soccer team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the publication announced Monday.
Both players were honored on the second team.
In total, 26 collegiate teams were represented across the three selected teams. Indiana is one of just eight programs to have more than one player selected to a team. The Hoosiers also join an elite list of five institutions to have a player named to one of the teams on both the men's and women's side. IU senior keeper Bethany Kopel earned the distinction for the women's team.
Eight of the 33 members of the Academic All-America® Division I men's soccer teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.85, with the entire men's team holding a collective average GPA of 3.78.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
Bezerra, a MAC Hermann runner-up, just wrapped up his second year of his sport marketing and management degree. During his sophomore season, Bezerra earned All-America first team honors, was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and took home All-Big Ten first team accolades. He scored a team-high 12 goals, including five tallies in the three Big Ten Tournament matches, the most ever by a Hoosier in a single B1G tournament run.
Glass, an All-America third team selection by the United Soccer Coaches, graduated in December 2020 with bachelor degrees in marketing, management and sales. Despite only playing in eight matches, Glass led the Hoosiers in assists (5) and assists per game (.625), while captaining the Big Ten's most prolific defense in the regular season.
Indiana opens the 2021 season at Notre Dame on Aug. 27 before breaking in the home slate with a matchup with in-state rival Butler on Aug. 31. Tickets can be purchased here.
