Salyers Claims Second-Straight Top-10 Finish
CHICAGO – The Indiana men's golf team (856; +16) finished sixth in the team standings in one of the most prestigious collegiate tournaments of the fall slate at the 2021 Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 4-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (842; +2) outlasted the No. 3-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils (865; +5) for the team title.

• Sophomore Drew Salyers earned his second Top-10 finish in as many tournaments this season with a three-round score of 209 (68-72-69; -1) to tie for fifth place. His third-round score of 69 marked the fourth round of his season under 70.
• Salyers, the winner of the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational to open the season, finished with a pair of birdies on No. 6 and No. 13 to close out his round.
• The Howard, Ohio, native has finished inside the Top-10 of the individual standings in four career tournaments.
• Fifth-year senior Ethan Shepherd tallied his best round of the weekend on Sunday with an even-par 70. He holed out back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4 and was 1-under through the first nine holes. He finished t-42nd overall with a score of 220 (72-78-70; +10).
• Sophomore Clay Merchent carded his second-straight round at a 2-over 72. He started the round strong with birdies on No. 1 and No. 3 and finished t-42nd at 220 (76-72-72; +10).
• Senior Mitch Davis was the third Hoosier to finish the tournament tied for 42nd at 220 (72-74-74; +10). He closed out the event with a trio of birdies including two to close out the front nine.
• Junior Noah Gillard closed out the Hoosier lineup with a 5-over 75 on Sunday. He finished t-28th, the second-best tournament from a Hoosier, at 216 (71-70-76; +6).
• The Hoosiers finished ahead of six schools ranked inside the top-25 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches' Poll: Pepperdine (1), Texas (5), Illinois (10), Florida State (12), Florida (17), Arizona (22).
