No. 1 Indiana Falls to Creighton, 3-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (2-1-0) fell at home to the Creighton Bluejays (1-2-0) by a final tally of 3-0 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Friday night to open the adidas/Indiana Credit Union Classic.
KEY MOMENTS
• Creighton wasted little time finding the scoreboard in the match. A giveaway from the Hoosiers in the defensive third of the field let to a pair of quick shots. Senior midfielder Diego Gutierrez slotted home the second chance to give CU the 1-0 lead just 61 seconds into the game.
• The Bluejays doubled their lead in the 43rd minute on a strike from senior midfielder Charles Auguste. Junior midfielder Dominic Briggs crossed in the assist from the right sideline.
• The final goal of the game came from Briggs on the assist from Auguste in the 79th minute.
• Indiana had four shots on frame, but the Creighton defense, led by senior keeper Paul Kruse, was able to keep IU off the scoreboard.
• Perhaps Indiana's best chance on goal came in the 44th minute on a header attempt from sophomore defender Lukas Hummel. The Fenton, Mo., native fielded the clean crosser and redirected the ball towards goal. The attempt was saved.
NOTABLES
• The loss marks the first Indiana men's soccer regular season loss at home since falling to Ohio State (1-0) on Oct. 10, 2015. The unbeaten streak reached 43 matches (37-0-6) with eight home victories over ranked opponents during the stretch.
• The Hoosier defense has conceded five goals through three matches this season. IU allowed only six goals in all of 2020-21.
• The match was played in front of a season-high 3,391 fans.
