BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's soccer team (4-1-1) will host Murray State on Thursday Sept. 9 at 7pm at Bill Armstrong Stadium and travel to Kansas State for a match on Sept. 12 at 1pm.
SCOUTING MURRAY STATE
Murray State comes into the match with a 4-1 record on the season. The Racers have won two straight (Florida Atlantic and Florida International) after a 2-1 loss to Xavier. Murray State finished with a record of 9-2 in the spring 2021 season. They have 10 goals scored on the year led by Abby Jones who has three goals and one assist.
SCOUTING KANSAS STATE
The Wildcats are 4-2 on the season. After starting the season with a loss to Weber State, Kansas State has won four of their last five matches. The Wildcats travel to Purdue for a Thursday night match before returning home to play the Hoosiers.
LEVY EARNS BIG TEN HONORS
Freshman Jordyn Levy earned recognition from the Big Ten this week as she was selected the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Levy scored two goals on the week, including the game winning goal against Western Michigan, and leads the Hoosiers with three goals on the season.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
Against Southeast Missouri State on Sunday the Hoosiers scored six goals, their most in a match since the 2011 season. All six goals came in the first half of the match, which set a program record for goals in a half. Six different players scored the six goals for the Hoosiers.
MAKING HISTORY AT NOTRE DAME
For the first time in program history the Hoosiers got a result against Notre Dame. On Sunday the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish battled to a 0-0 draw. Previously the Hoosiers were 0-11 all-time against Notre Dame.
2021 SPRING SEASON
The 2021 spring season was historic for the Hoosiers. Indiana tied a program record for Big Ten wins and established a new school record for Big Ten points in a season with 19. On March 2, the Hoosiers were ranked in the top-25 for the first time since 2013.
PRESEASON POLL AND HONORS
The Big Ten announced its Women's Soccer Preseason Players to Watch List on Monday with senior Hanna Nemeth, junior Avery Lockwood and freshman Jamie Gerstenberg representing Indiana. In addition, the preseason poll was unveiled with the Hoosiers coming in in sixth place. Both were voted on by the conference coaches.
Lockwood, a midfielder from Grand Rapids, Mich., earned All-Big Ten Third Team honors and was selected by the United Soccer Coaches to the All-North Region third team in the 2021 spring season. Lockwood, a leader for Indiana's offense, scored a couple of game winners against Michigan and Michigan State. She started in all 12 games tallying a total of 24 shots and 15 shots on goal. Nemeth scored her first career goal against Penn State on March 4 and held Indiana's back line strong aiding the Hoosiers four shutouts, including a shutout of Michigan for the first time since 2009.
NEW FACES FOR THE HOOSIERS
The Hoosiers have several new players on the roster that should see playing time this season. Among them are eight freshmen and three transfers. The Hoosiers return their entire starting lineup from the 2021 spring season as well.
TOKYO OLYMPICS
Sophomore Gabi Rennie made the New Zealand national team for the Tokyo Olympics. In New Zealand's first match of the Olympics, against Australia, Rennie entered the game in the 89th minute and two minutes later scored a goal on her only touch of the game. It was extra special for Rennie as her brother Liam, a member of the New Zealand media attended the game.
