1/21/2022 1:51:00 PM | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two days after a dramatic hoops matchup between Indiana and Purdue played out in Assembly Hall, the rivalry moves to the pool as the No. 5/13 Hoosiers host the RV/NR Boilermakers in dual meet action Saturday (Jan. 22) morning in Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
"There is something special with any competition against Purdue," Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze said. "It brings out the best spirit, camaraderie, and competition out of all Hoosiers."
"We are looking forward to seeing Purdue tomorrow," head diving coach Drew Johansen said. "Platform will be highlighted tomorrow morning in our first event. The Indiana-Purdue rivalry is a great one. We have a lot of alumni in town and will be feeding off the energy of Thursday's basketball win."
The Hoosier men are 7-0 in dual meets this season while maintaining a streak of 13 straight dual meet victories going back to 2019. IU men's swimming and diving has won 11 consecutive meets against Purdue going back to the 2010-11 season, while the women's team is 10-0 since 2011-12.
Prior to the meet, Indiana will celebrate Senior Day with a ceremony beginning at approximately 9:40 a.m. ET.
"Our senior class means a great deal to us," Looze said. "They have led both teams through massive challenges with COVID-19 over the last 2 ½ years. We are indebted to their fine leadership."

FOUR HOOSIERS WIN BIG TEN WEEKLY AWARDS
For the second time this season four Indiana student-athletes earned Big Ten weekly awards following IU's dual meet versus No. 11/15 Louisville, the conference office announced Wednesday (Jan. 19).
Swimmer of the week Brendan Burns, diver of the week Carson Tyler and freshman of the week Rafael Miroslaw combined to sweep the men's awards after they helped the Hoosiers dominate Louisville, 205-95. Senior diver Kristen Hayden added to the tally, winning Big Ten Women's Diver of the Week laurels.
Between its men's and women's teams, eight Indiana student-athletes have collected 14 such awards over five weeks of eligibility this season.
HOOSIERS COMPETE FOR U.S. NATIONAL TEAM
The IU swimming and diving program sent 13 current, former, and Indiana Swim Club trainees, and two coaches to the Olympic Games 2020 Tokyo. The athletes returned with 11 medals. Three Hoosier Olympians, Michael Brinegar, Andrew Capobianco and Tomer Frankel, are on the roster for the 2021-22 campaign. Capobianco earned silver in the 3M Synchro Springboard.
Six swimmers with Indiana ties have been named to the 2021-22 U.S. National Team roster: Zach Apple, Blake Pieroni, Lilly King, Annie Lazor and current Hoosiers Michael Brinegar and Mariah Denigan.
Five Indiana divers – Andrew Capobianco, Tarrin Gilliland, Kristen Hayden, Quinn Henninger and Carson Tyler – qualified for the FINA World Championships from their performances during the 2021 USA Diving Winter National Championships in December that took place inside IU's home facility, Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
During the meet, Hayden, a senior, became the first Black female U.S. Diving national champion, winning the Mixed Synchronized 3-Meter dive with Henninger.
LAST TIME OUT: HOOSIER MEN DOMINATE LOUISVILLE, IUSD SPLITS MEET
Fifth-ranked Indiana men's swimming and diving team continues to roll into the new year as it defeated No. 11 Louisville, 205-95, last Friday (January 14) inside Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The Hoosier men improved its season dual meet record to 7-0 while earning its 13th straight dual meet victory, a streak that goes back to 2019.
Indiana diving was fantastic again as the men's and women's teams combined for four wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Senior Kristen Hayden won both events on the women's side, and freshman Carson Tyler duplicated that for the men.
Missing a handful of athletes, the women's team fell to the 15th-ranked Cardinals, 182-118, dropping to 5-2 on the season. Diving provided a bright spot for the women's team, as Hoosiers filled the top five placements in the 3-meter dive and four of the top five spots in the 1-meter.
