Indiana Wrestling Resumes Season at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio –– The Indiana wrestling team returns to the mats with a trip to Ohio University for a dual match at 7:00 p.m on Tuesday.

- After cancellations of the Midlands Championships and Matmen Open that were scheduled for Dec. 29-30, Indiana is back in action.
- The Midlands Championship was canceled by the host out of caution of issues related to COVID-19. The MatMen Open was scheduled in place of this at the same site, but Indiana paused all team-related activities due to COVID-19 issues and could not participate.
- This will be the Hoosiers' first matchup since Dec. 11 when they participated in the Cleveland State Open.
- Indiana will travel with 13 wrestlers to Ohio.
- The Hoosiers will have two wrestlers each at the 133, 157, and 285 weight classes making the trip.
- At 133 lbs., Indiana will travel Brock Hudkins and Noah Gochberg. The 157 lbs. group features Derek Gilcher and Kasper McIntosh, while at 285 lbs., Indiana includes Jacob Bullock and Andrew Irick.
- The Ohio lineup includes six wrestlers with individual winning records.
- Oscar Sanchez (125): 11-5, Gio DiSabato (133): 11-3, Kyran Hagan (141), 10-3, Alec Hagan (149): 16-4, Jordan Slivika (157): 17-2, Zayne Lehman (184): 16-2 lead the way for the Bobcats.
- According to InterMat, Slivika is ranked No. 26 for the 157 weight class and Sal Perrine is ranked No. 22 for 174. Perrine will not participate against the Hoosiers.
- As of the latest InterMat rankings from Dec. 22, the Hoosiers keep four of their own in the national list for each's respective weight class.
- Jacob Moran (125) comes in at No. 27 and Hudkins (133) is listed at No. 19.
- Cayden Rooks (141) is considered No. 25.
- Donnell Washington (184) has risen into the top ten, being listed at No. 9.
- This will be the final regular season matchup before Big Ten play gets into full swing for the Hoosiers.
- After battling Ohio, Indiana will travel to face nationally ranked No. 12 Rutgers on Friday and No. 2 Penn State on Sunday.
- This is not the final non-conference matchup, though, as the Hoosiers will close out the regular season with Chattanooga on Feb. 20.
- Washington and Hudkins both are undefeated and have a combined 13-0 individual record between the two of them.
- Washington carries a 9-0 record while Hudkins has a 4-0 mark.
