TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana Cross Country team saw four individuals earn NCAA Great Lakes Regional Accolades on Friday morning at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course with three claiming the honors on the women's side and one on the men's side.
The Hoosiers saw late pushes from Mariah Wehrle (16th) and Maddie Dalton (25th) to join Sarah Schmitt (19th) in the top-25 in Terre Haute.
Gabriel Sanchez followed behind a pack of Wisconsin runners to finish 14th (30:17.4) and shave nearly 36 seconds off his personal best at 10,000 meters.
As a team, the women finished seventh with Phoebe Bates (51st) and Jenna Barker (53rd) rounding out the scoring for IU.
Sanchez helped lead IU's men to a sixth-place finish with Camden Marshall (32nd), Jake Gebhardt (41st), Austin Haskett (42nd) and Dustin Horter (55th) doing the scoring for the Hoosiers.
The top four individuals in each regional that aren't part of advancing teams, automatic or at-large, will advance to next week's NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Based on team projections heading into the weekend, Wehrle, Schmitt and Sanchez are among the individuals in contention to advance.
The selection show will take place with the final 13 teams on each side being selected at-large by the committee. The 31 teams in the field will clear the path for four individuals from each region not on advancing teams to make their way to Stillwater next week.
Tomorrow's (Nov. 12) selection show will be broadcasted on NCAA.com with final entries being announced at the conclusion of the proceedings.
