Indiana Wrestling to host No. 23 Princeton and head to Army

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––––– After a weekend off, Indiana Wrestling is set for a big weekend of competition.
On Friday, the Hoosiers will host No. 23 Princeton in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for the Hoosiers' first dual and first home event of the year. Shortly after, on Sunday Indiana will travel to West Point, N.Y. for the prestigious Black Knight Invite.
FAST START:
-One dual and one open tournament in and Indiana's season is already off to a roaring start. In just a few events, 28 Hoosier wrestlers have seen mat time already.
-Fourteen of those 28 have already collected at least one pin. Freshman Gabe Sollars has won four of his five matches wrestled by fall.
-In the season-opening dual at SIUE, Indiana won four bouts by bonus point victories and built a 20-0 lead through the first half.
-True freshman Henry Porter burst on the stage in his collegiate debut. He is 4-0 to start his career with a major decision, a pin and two tech falls to his name already.
HISTORY AND IU TIES:
-Friday's dual meet vs. No. 23 Princeton marks the first dual held in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall since 2010.
-It is also the first time any wrestling competition of any kind will be at the venue since the 2017 Big Ten Championships.
-For the matchup of Indiana-Princeton, this is only the second meeting all-time between the two programs. Princeton won the only match of the series on Jan. 9, 1974, 23-15, at Princeton.
-Two members of Princeton's staff are Indiana Wrestling greats. Princeton's associate head coach Joe Dubuque was a two-time NCAA Champion at Indiana in 2005 and 2006 at 125 lbs.
-Princeton assistant coach Nate Jackson was a two-time All-American in his collegiate career at Indiana, placing at the NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017. He is the Hoosiers' most recent All-American.
PRINCETON PREVIEW:
-Friday's dual will also be Princeton's first dual of the season. So far, the Tigers have only competed in their own Princeton Open.
-Princeton had a very impressive 2021-22 campaign. The Tigers accumulated a 6-5 record, a third place finish at the EIWA Championships and a 16th place spot at the NCAA Championships.
-Princeton returns much of that depth with seven ranked wrestlers in this year's starting lineup.
-Two of those wrestlers were not only All-Americans, but NCAA Finalists in 2022. No. 2 ranked Patrick Glory and No.1 ranked Quincy Monday finished second at 125 and 157 lbs., respectively.
-Luke Stout (No. 17 at 197) and Matt Cover (No. 21 at HWT) round out the Tigers' top wrestlers of their probables for this Friday.
-Princeton had six NCAA qualifiers in the 2021-2022 season.
BLACK KNIGHT INVITE:
-The Hoosiers have a quick turnaround after hosting Princeton Friday as the prestigious Black Knight Invite awaits.
-The invite will last all day and have a single bracket at each weight class.
-In addition to Indiana and Army, other teams competing include Buffalo, Brown, Bloomsburg, Campbell, Central Michigan, Columbia, Hofstra and Penn State.
-This will be Indiana's first time back at the Black Knight Invite since 2019.
