BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Volleyball team (13-15, 6-10) will look to put a tough weekend behind them as it prepares to welcome Northwestern to town on Friday (7:00 PM) before heading to No. 5 Ohio State on Sunday (1:00 PM) for the final road game of the season.
The Hoosiers were swept by a pair of top-16 opponents last weekend in No. 16 Penn State and No. 9 Minnesota; however, four of the six sets were decided by three points or fewer.
IU is 5-1 against unranked opponents in conference play this season and won the last matchup against Rutgers on Oct. 28. Sunday's match with the fifth-ranked Buckeyes will mark the 11th time the Hoosiers have met a ranked opponent in conference play.
Including this weekend, IU will have played six of its last seven against ranked opposition. The Hoosiers have never beaten a top-five team on the road and own one victory all-time against a top-five opponent (2010 vs. No. 4 Penn State).
Northwestern and IU are tied at 38-all in the all-time series with each other. Ohio State owns a 58-25 advantage over IU, but Steve Aird has twice defeated the Buckeyes as head coach.
The Hoosiers will wear special uniforms on Friday, provided by Adidas, to honor 50 years of the passing of Title IX. The jerseys are modeled after IU uniforms worn in the 1980's.
Both weekend matches will be streamed via Big Ten Plus.
The Hoosiers:
• This marks the 48th season of Indiana Volleyball including the fifth under head coach Steve Aird.
• Mady Saris has taken big steps forward in her sophomore campaign and ranks near the top of the conference in several categories. She owns 376 kills (No. 5 in Big Ten) and 426.5 points (No. 5 in Big Ten) on the season.
• Camryn Haworth has proven to be one of the most versatile setters in all of the Big Ten. Her 942 assists rank No. 4 in the Big Ten and her 9.06 assists per set put her 6th in the conference. She's also No. 1 in the conference in aces (43).
• Morgan Geddes and Kaley Rammelsberg have returned to give IU a full-strength lineup for the first time in conference play. The pair combined for 24 kills at Wisconsin (Nov. 6), the first time both have been in double digits since Sept. 16.
• Paula Cerame has been fantastic this season with 401 digs (No. 2 Big Ten) and 32 service aces (No. 8 Big Ten). She's had 10+ digs in 15 of 16 Big Ten matches.
• The Hoosiers have developed an identity as one of the toughest serving teams in the conference and in the NCAA.
• IU has 189 aces and sits No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 19 nationally in service aces this year. It is the second highest-ranked power five team in the NCAA in aces.
• Camryn Haworth (43) and Paula Cerame (32) are 1st and 8th in the Big Ten while Kenzie Daffinee's electric jump serve has earned her at least two aces on six separate occasions this season.
• Mady Saris, Camryn Haworth and Paula Cerame have started all 28 matches for the Hoosiers this year while Savannah Kjolhede, Isa Lopez and Candela Alonso-Corcelles have all appeared in every match as well.
• Savannah Kjolhede has steadily improved over the course of her career, now in her third season as a Hoosier. After playing her freshman campaign in the COVID-shortened spring, Kjolhede has improved her hitting percentage from .194 to .323 in two seasons and owns 420 career kills and 246 career blocks.
The Opposition:
Northwestern (17-11)
• The Wildcats have dropped three-straight games and have been hampered with injuries including the loss of both setters. The availability of the position will be determined Friday.
• Temi Thomas-Ailara is one of the nation's prolific attackers and has 431 kills this season including a resounding 4.27 per set.
• Megan Miller leads the Wildcats and the Big Ten with 417 kills and has been an anchor for the Wildcats in the backline this year.
No. 5 Ohio State (19-5)
