Indiana Makes History with Top-5 Victory at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After coming so close on so many occasions, the Indiana Volleyball team (15-15, 8-10) picked up one of the biggest wins in the program's 48-year history, taking down No. 5 Ohio State in a thrilling five-setter at the Covelli Center.
Despite going down 14-12 in the fifth set, the Hoosiers fought off two match points before Mady Saris buried a pair of kills to earn IU the first road win in program history over a top-five program.
A brilliant team effort saw IU record more kills, assists, digs, blocks and aces than the No. 5 Buckeyes and saw three players earn double doubles.
Mady Saris (14 kills, 10 digs), Paula Cerame (29 digs, 12 assists) and Camryn Haworth (45 assists, 16 digs) were brilliant but clutch performances from role players in Grae Gosnell (16 digs) and Candela Alonso-Corcelles (14 kills) helped fend off Ohio State down the stretch.
The Hoosiers now have eight wins in the Big Ten, the most since winning nine in the 2010 season, the last time the team made the NCAA Tournament.
IU has two more matches remaining in the regular season with home games against Illinois and Maryland on the docket to help booster the resume.
The road win marked the second victory away from home over ranked opposition this year, the first time in program history it's been done.
SET 1 (Ohio State 26, Indiana 24)
• A strong start early on, propelled by kills from Mady Saris and Camryn Haworth, saw the Buckeyes burn a timeout down 8-3 in the first set.
• Three-straight kills from Candela Alonso-Corcelles, Mady Saris and Kaley Rammelsberg stifled the Ohio State defense, focing the Buckeyes to call a second timeout.
• The Hoosiers would take the lead back at 22-21 following a crucial kill from Savannah Kjolhede.
• Back-to-back kills from Morgan Geddes were enough to bring the set to 24-all but Ohio State would get the final two points and take the first.
SET 2 (Indiana 25, Ohio State 17)
• Another strong start benefited the Hoosiers, as Candela Alonso-Corcelles aced Ohio State to go up 13-8.
• Kaley Rammelsberg and Candela Alonso-Corcelles provided big kills to push the lead out to 20-13 in the second frame.
• An Ohio State ball-handling error closed out the game and brought the Hoosiers level with a 25-17 set win.
SET 3 (Indiana 25, Ohio State 17)
• Back-to-back service aces from Mady Saris before two-straight kills from Morgan Geddes saw IU jump out to an 11-6 lead in the third.
• Savannah Kjolhede provided clutch kills down the stretch to give IU the 22-16 advantage.
• Two-straight Ohio State attack errors handed IU a convincing 25-17 victory in the third.
SET 4 (Ohio State 25, Indiana 20)
• The fourth set began back-and-forth with a big ace from Camryn Haworth leveling things at 9-all.
• Ohio State would go on a five-point run to blow the set open 18-12.
• The Hoosiers would close the gap to 22-19 in the fourth but Ohio State got a spirited effort from Jenaisya Moore to force a fifth.
SET 5 (Indiana 16, Ohio State 14)
• Ohio State opened up the frame up 4-1, forcing IU into an early timeout.
• Kills from Mady Saris and Savannah Kjolhede brought the Hoosiers back on level terms at 6-all.
• The Buckeyes took a 14-12 lead but Kaley Rammelsberg fought off the first match point with a kill.
• Paula Cerame went to the service line down 13-14 and provided the start of a nice rally that was finished off by a Savannah Kjolhede kill.
• Mady Saris came up clutch after the timeout, drilling home two kills to take the match.
NOTABLES:
• Three Hoosiers had double doubles including Mady Saris, Paula Cerame and Camryn Haworth.
• Camryn Haworth nearly had a triple-double for the second-straight match, providing the Hoosiers with eight kills, 45 assists, one ace, four blocks and 16 digs.
• On the weekend, she had 18 kills, 82 assists, 27 digs, 11 blocks and one ace.
• Paula Cerame had career highs with 29 digs and 12 assists. Her 29 kills are the sixth-most in a single game in program history and second-most in the rally era.
• Mady Saris provided 14 kills and 10 digs to pair with a career-high five service aces.
• Candela Alonso-Corcelles played an outstanding game, handing the Hoosiers 14 kills, three aces, four blocks and five digs.
• Grae Gosnell was superb in the back row, digging a career-best 16 balls to pair with two kills and three assists.
• Isa Lopez was one of five in double digits with 10 digs.
• Savannah Kjolhede (nine kills, six blocks) and Kaley Rammelsberg (10 kills, seven blocks) held form in the middle for IU.
• The Hoosiers were the dominant force in every major category with more kills, assists, digs, blocks and aces than the fifth-ranked Buckeyes.

• This marks the first top-five win on the road in program history and is just the second win ever against a top-five team (vs. No. 4 Penn State, 2010).
• This is the first season in program history that IU has defeated two ranked teams on the road in the same season.
• IU is the winner of eight conference games for the first time since winning nine in 2010.
• The Hoosiers entered Sunday 1-56 all-time against top-five teams before earning their second-ever win.
• IU moves to 5-2 in the Big Ten this season in five-set matches.
