Hoosiers Win Third Straight Behind Stellar Offensive Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Behind a brilliant attacking effort from Morgan Geddes and Candela Alonso-Corcelles, the Indiana Volleyball team (16-15, 9-10) saw off visiting Illinois 3-1 on Wednesday evening.
A closely contested match throughout saw the Hoosiers make big plays down the stretch to come away with a third-consecutive win, 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20.
The Hoosiers have nine wins in the conference for the first time since 2010 and will go for their 10th win in the Big Ten on Friday against Maryland.
As a team, the Hoosiers hit .306, the second match in the Big Ten and the fifth overall that they've eclipsed the .300 plateau as a team this year.
Alonso-Corcelles hit .452 (17-3-31) while Morgan Geddes (.314) and Kaley Rammelsberg (.467) were fantastic as well.
This marks the first win over the Illini since 2010, breaking a streak of 20-straight losses.
One final regular season match awaits the Hoosiers with a visit from Maryland on Friday evening at 5:00 PM EST in Wilkinson Hall.
SET 1 (Indiana 25, Illinois 21)
• The Illini jumped out to a quick start, winning the first five points before Steve Aird used his first timeout of the set.
• IU would settle in nicely after that, using a 12-7 run and a kill from Kaley Rammelsberg to level the score at 12-all.
• Candela Alonso-Corcelles had an outstanding first set with five kills including a big one to make the score 19-16.
• Kills from Camryn Haworth and Savannah Kjolhede closed out an entertaining 25-20 win in the first set.
SET 2 (Indiana 25, Illinois 23)
• After exchanging points through the first half of the set, IU jumped out to a 12-9 advantage following an attack error from Illinois' Raina Terry.
• Following an Illinois timeout, the Illini recorded a kill and ace to go up 23-20, forcing IU on their heels at the end of the frame.
• The Hoosiers responded with a 5-0 run to close out the set including back-to-back kills from Morgan Geddes to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
SET 3 (Illinois 25, Indiana 21)
• A kill from Morgan Geddes followed by an Illinois attacking error sent the Hoosiers out to a 12-9 lead in the third set.
• Raina Terry turned it on in the third, supplying a string of three-straight kills to take a 18-13 lead and force an IU timeout.
• The Hoosiers would close the gap to just one at 18-19 but never closer as Illinois picked up the third set win.
SET 4 (Indiana 25, Illinois 20)
• The Hoosiers got off to a blistering start, opening up a 6-2 lead following a kill from Candela Alonso-Corcelles.
• Illinois closed the gap to just 15-14 following a service ace that was mishandled by Isa Lopez.
• Big kills from Kaley Rammelsberg and Savannah Kjolhede opened IU's lead back to 22-19 and forced Illinois into a timeout.
• Candela Alonso-Corcelles rounded out her outstanding night with two more big kills to finish off the Illini in four.

• Candela Alonso-Corcelles had a career high 17 kills on 31 swings with just errors while hitting a productive .452 on the evening.
• Camryn Haworth continued her run of terror on the Big Ten with 45 assists, eight kills and eight digs. She also had four blocks and two aces.
• Kaley Rammlesberg was efficient in attack with eight kills on 17 swings and just one error.
• Morgan Geddes had a big night, tallying 16 kills while hitting .314.
• Paula Cerame dug out 28 balls including 25 in the first three sets to pair with six assists and one ace in the victory.
