Indiana Wrestling Heads West for Dollarmur Reno Tournament of Champions

Reno, Nev. ––––– Indiana Wrestling will head farther west than they will all season for their next tournament as the Hoosiers will compete at the Dollarmur Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 18.
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS:
-Next on Indiana's docket is a visit to the Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev.
-The invitational event is a full weekend of wrestling that starts with high school tournaments on Friday and Saturday with college wrestling taking place on Sunday.
-There are 20 teams who will participate in the collegiate tournament.
-Participating teams include Cal Baptist, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Wyoming among others.
-Oklahoma State and Michigan State are ranked at No. 13 and No. 23, respectively.
-This will be Indiana's third invitational/open that the Hoosiers will compete in as a team this season. A handful of Hoosiers wrestled in the Bob Del Rosa Intercollegiate Open and the Cleveland State Open earlier this year, but the whole team/starters did not compete.
CATCHING UP:
-It has been a busy few weeks for Indiana since they last competed.
-The Hoosiers had a very successful showing on the mat in the Garden State Grapple, winning two duals on Sunday, Dec. 4 against Drexel and Binghamton.
-The win over Drexel was Indiana's best dual performance of the year, 29-6, and winning eight of the ten bouts.
-Indiana had three bonus-point victories against the Dragons. Cayden Rooks got his first win by fall this season.
-Freshman Gabe Sollars had his first win by major decision of his college career. Gilcher also won by major decision.
-Nick South got his first start and dual appearance of the season against Drexel at 165 lbs.
-South started the season at 174 lbs. and then moved down to 165 lbs. His match against Drexel was his first time wrestling at 165 since the 2020-21 season.
-The win over Binghamton saw the Hoosiers on top as well, taking it, 25-16.
-The Hoosiers won seven of the ten bouts with senior Jacob Bullock clinching the win at 285.
-Earlier on in the match, Binghamton was trailing 19-4 through the 174 lbs. bout. The Bearcats had two straight pins at 184 and 197 to make the score 19-16. Bullock followed that with his first pin of the season, taking now No. 33 Cory Day out in 3:45 to seal the win.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS:
-Thanks to Indiana's recent strong string of success on the mat, the Hoosiers have seen their presence show in the national rankings.
-Indiana has six grapplers who are ranked in InterMat's national rankings across the ten weight classes.
-Indiana's Henry Porter (133), Cayden Rooks (141), Graham Rooks (149), DJ Washington (174), Nick Willham (197) and Jacob Bullock (285) are all ranked.
-Porter, Willham and Bullock have all entered the rankings for the first time in their collegiate careers.
-Washington is the Hoosiers' highest ranked wrestler at No. 14 at 174 lbs.
-The other rankings are Porter at No. 31, C. Rooks at No. 29, G. Rooks at No. 30, Willham at No. 33 and Bullock at No. 32.
