No. 4/3 IU Travels To Penn State Thursday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 4/3 Indiana hits the road for its first Big Ten game away from Bloomington this season as it travels to Penn State on Thursday night. Tipff at Bryce Jordan Center is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Penn State went to double overtime with Minnesota where it fell in its Big Ten opener, 98-96, in Minneapolis. They are led by junior guard Makenna Marisa who averages 18.7 points and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor. Redshirt sophomore guard Leilani Kapinus adds 10.2 points and 5.9 boards while freshman guard Shay Ciezki is also in double figures, averaging 10.0 points per outing. The Lady Lions are scoring 76.8 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor.

- The Hoosiers started off Big Ten play with a win as it gritted out a 65-61 win over Illinois on Sunday. They are off to a 9-0 start to the season and have a chance to tie the school record for best start with a win on Thursday. Their best start came in 2018-19 when it won its first 10 games.
- With the two wins last week, Indiana rose up one spot in each national poll including to its highest ever program ranking in the USA Today/WBCA coaches poll. It is in at No. 3 this week, besting its previous best of No. 4 last week. In the Associated Press top 25, IU moved up to No. 4 to tie its highest ranking amongst the media.
- In the series with the Lady Lions, Indiana has won five-straight and nine of the last 10 dating back to 2015.
- Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll for her efforts in a pair of IU wins against No. 6 North Carolina and Illinois. The Gorham, Maine native averaged 24 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and shot 55.3 percent from the floor. She scored a team-high 25 points in the win over the Tar Heels while scoring 20-plus points in five-straight games.
- Junior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil leads the Big Ten and is third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio. The Sharon, Tenn. native holds a +5.0 ratio, dishing out 45 assists to just nine turnovers in nine games. Indiana also ranks in the top 10 in five different team categories including field goal percentage (51.0, 5th) and scoring offense (85.9, 8th). Moore-McNeil is one of five players nationally currently shooting 50 percent from the floor, 40 percent from the 3-point line and 90 percent from the free throw line, per Her Hoop Stats.
- IU was named the NCAA Team of the Week for its efforts against No. 6 North Carolina and Illinois.
