Hoosiers Split Pair of the Matches

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team came up short in a 4-2 loss against Butler, but rebounded for a 4-0 win against Xavier on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.

Against Butler, the Bulldogs won the doubles point with wins on No. 1 and No. 3

The Hoosiers got out to a strong start winning the first set in four of the six singles matches.

Luka Vukovic got the Hoosiers on the board with a point, winning at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4

Patrick Fletchall gave the Hoosiers a quick second point after Vukovic winning at No. 2, 6-4, 7-5, holding off Alvaro Huete Vadillo of Butler. Fletchall put the Hoosiers ahead 2-1.

Butler came back and won the next 3 matches on No. 5, No. 1, and No. 6 to beat the Hoosiers 4-2.

IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said the key to the second match was the doubles point.

The Hoosiers picked up a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles and a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles to secure the point.

Patrick Fletchall, Ilya Tiraspolsky and Luka Vukovic each picked up straight set wins for the Hoosiers in the 4-0 win over Xavier.

The Hoosiers (4-4) travel to Louisville for a match on Saturday February 26.
