No. 17 Indiana Sweeps Saturday Action At Kalbus Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 17 Indiana picked up a pair of ranked wins at the Barbara Kalbus Invite on Saturday, as it defeated No. 18 LMU (16-15) in overtime and No. 11 UC San Diego (10-9).

KEY MOMENTS

Indiana went goal-for-goal with the Lions in the first five minutes of play as the game was tied 3-3. A powerplay goal for LMU gave it the slight edge after one, 4-3.
Goals from senior Izzy Mandema and sophomore Katherine Hawkins put Indiana up one with 5:44 to play in the second quarter. One of junior Lanna Debow's goals kept IU with the lead but LMU scored four unanswered goals to take a 9-6 lead at the half.
IU added three goals in the third quarter as it still trailed by three, 12-9. In the fourth, the Hoosiers turned on the jets and scored three unanswered goals to tie the game at 12-all. Going goal-for-goal again in the final minutes of regulation, Debow's goal on a Zoe Crouch feed made it a one-point lead, 15-14, with 1:55 to go. But LMU added the equalizer with just five seconds remaining to force overtime.
The only goal of the overtime period was scored in the first overtime by Debow who notched the game winner with a minute to play.
Coming out strong against No. 11 UC San Diego, Indiana took leads after the first and second quarters including a 6-3 halftime advantage. The Tritons evened things up in the third quarter, outscoring the Hoosiers, 4-1, and knotting the game at 7-7 going to the final eight minutes of play.
Battling back in the fourth, Indiana battled through a couple of one-goal deficits as Crouch's goal with an assist to freshman Sophia Sollie tied the game at 9-9 with 4:01 to play. Both teams would get multiple shots off but only one goal stuck as Hawkins would convert on the power play with 1:32 to go and would be the difference maker.
