Indiana Wrestling Travels to Illinois for Sunday Meet

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –––– Indiana Wrestling (3-4, 1-4) will head just a state over for a road meet against Illinois (2-4, 0-4) on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2 pm. in the State Farm Center. This will be the Hoosiers' first away contest in 27 days.

LOOK AHEAD TO ILLINOIS:
- The Fighting Illini are 2-4 on the season and 0-4 in the Big Ten.
- Six of Illinois' probable starters are ranked in the InterMat national rankings.
- The six ranked wrestlers include two in the top ten in No. 6 Lucas Byrd (133) and No. 4 Dylan Duncan (141).
- Duncan is a four-time NCAA qualifier and 1-0 this year. Byrd is a one-time NCAA qualifier and 14-1 this season.
- Two thirds of Illinois' points scored in duals this season have come from their 133, 165, 184, and 197-lb weight classes.
NARROW LOSS TO THE BOILERMAKERS:
- On Saturday, Jan. 29, Indiana lost in the narrowest of defeats to No. 17 Purdue by a 16-17 margin in Bloomington.
- Despite the loss, the rivalry dual was very exciting as both teams split with five bouts won each.
- Four Hoosiers picked up ranked victories on the day, too. This included two Indiana wrestlers, Nick South (174) and Jacob Bullock (285) who earned ranked victories despite being unranked themselves.
STILL PERFECT:
- Indiana graduate student Brock Hudkins (133) has continued his historic season undefeated at 9-0 following his win against Purdue.
- Hudkins is 7-0 in dual matches and owns a +47 point differential with a major decison, tech fall, and pin to his name.
BATTLING TO THE END:
- As of late, South and Bullock have found themselves in some seriously close bouts.
- In his last three bouts, South's point-differential between him and his opponents has come down to an average of two points. Two of those bouts featured South winning by one point.
- In Bullock's last three bouts, the average margin of point differential has been 2.33 points. In his most recent bout vs. Purdue, Bullock won via 6-4 decision in the first round of Sudden Victory.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION:
- In the latest InterMat rankings (Feb. 1), Indiana has three wrestlers slotted in their poll.
- Cayden Rooks (141) is at No. 32 for his class and D.J. Washington (184) stayed put from his spot in the previous week's rankings at No. 14.
- Brock Hudkins (133) moved up one spot to No. 10.
TOTAL TURNAROUND
- Indiana redshirt junior Graham Rooks (149) has gone on a tear as of late, arguably wrestling his best all-season.
- After being in a slump of a four-loss streak, Rooks has won three in a row, including a Major Decision victory against Purdue by a 12-2 margin.
