Baseball Surges Past Miami (Ohio)

Tibbitts belts two home runs, Ellis and Fougerousse each hit one long ball in victory over RedHawks
Indiana (2-5) scored in six innings and the pitching staff allowed just two Miami (Ohio) (3-4) runs to open the home portion of the schedule in style. The Hoosiers his four home runs and added two triples in the game and scored 15 runs on the night.
Tibbitts powered the offense with his multi-home run game and five RBIs, while sophomore Kip Fougerousse hit his first home run of the season and plated three. Redshirt-junior Matthew Ellis notched his third home run of the season and plated two runs.
Eight of nine starters collected hits on the night with all nine reaching base in the game. Freshman Josh Pyne was the fourth IU hitter to collect multiple RBIs in the game with a pair of runs batted in on two hits. Pyne and Tibbitts posted the two multi-hit games for Indiana, while Ellis and redshirt-sophomore Morgan Colopy was on base three times with a hit and two walks.
Hayden (1-0) threw two innings hitless, scoreless innings in his first career start. The right-hander struck out three and walked three in facing nine batters to earn his first career win. The quartet of freshmen Ryan Kraft and Grant Holderfield and seniors Braydon Tucker and Bradley Brehmer closed out the game. In all, the pitching staff struck out 16 in the game and allowed just two runs on four hits.

The first six batters of the inning reached base, highlighted by a pair of three-run home runs. Brock Tibbitts homered after a walk to Matthew Ellis and a base hit by Morgan Colopy. Josh Pyne singled and Carter Mathison walked in front of a Kip Fougerousse three-run shot.

A walk and a double put runners on second and third with no outs. A ground out pushed the first RedHawk run across the plate, before Grant Holderfield got back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the frame.

Tyler Doanes stood at first with two outs before Bobby Whalen tripled to deep right-center field to plate the first run of the inning. Ellis followed with a two-run home run.

With two outs, Mathison walked and pinch hitter Hunter Jessee tripled to plate the first run of the inning. Doanes then delivered an RBI with a base hit.

Pinch hitters Samuel Murrison and Tucker Schank each singled in front of a Colopy walk. Tibbitts plated his fifth run of the game with a fielder's choice and Pyne capped the scoring with an RBI groundout.
