Hoosiers Open Big Ten Slate Against Purdue

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team will host Purdue to open Big Ten competition on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers traveled to Nashville, Tenn., to take on No. 41 Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt came out on top 4-0 in the match. In doubles Michael Andre and Luka Vukovic won at No. 3 doubles 6-3 to improve to 5-2 in dual match doubles on the season. Andre carried that momentum on to singles where he won his first set 6-4 but did not finish his match.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Purdue comes in with a 7-7 record and have won four of their last five matches. Most recently they lost 5-2 at California. Athell Bennett leads the Boilermakers at No. 1 singles and has a 8-4 record in dual match singles this season.
THE CAPTAINS
The Hoosiers captains for the 2022 season are seniors Patrick Fletchall, Carson Haskins and Mac Rogers.
Fletchall has won 33-career singles matches in his three seasons in Bloomington while also appearing at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in the Hoosier lineup. The Carmel-native was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during the 2020-2021 season.
Haskins is among the most seasoned veterans returning to the IU team. He's notched 45-career singles victories and has spent time at most spots throughout the lineup. Like Fletchall, Haskins was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree last season.
Rogers is a Bloomington native and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during the 2020-2021 campaign.
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
Patrick Fletchall leads the Hoosiers with six singles wins in dual match play. Fletchall has a 4-2 record at No. 2 singles. In doubles the Hoosiers most successful pairing has been Fletchall and Ilya Tiraspolsky and Andre and Vukovic. Both pairs are 5-2 in doubles in dual match play.
