Softball Opens Hoosier Classic with Pair of Victories

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana softball team scored 16 combined runs and stole 13 bases on their way to wins over Valparaiso and Western Illinois on the first day of the Hoosier Classic on Friday at Andy Mohr Field. The Hoosiers (7-4) started the day with a 9-4 victory over Valpo and closed with a 7-1 win over Western Illinois.
Game 1: Indiana 9, Valpo 4
Key Moments
• Valpo scored two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
• In the bottom half of the first inning Grayson Radcliffe singled and scored Cora Bassett score the Hoosiers first run of the game.
• The Hoosiers scored three runs in the second inning.
• Brittany Ford hit a home run to right center in the sixth inning that brought in two runs and put the Hoosiers up 9-4.
Notes
• Indiana trailed Valpo 3-1 in the middle of the second inning and outscored the Beacons 8-1 the rest of the game.
• The Hoosiers recorded eight stolen bases in the game. Cora Bassett had three stolen bases in the game. Six different players had a stolen base.
• Cora Bassett and Grayson Radcliffe each recorded three hits.
• The home run by Ford was her third of the season.
• The Hoosiers tallied 12 hits in the game.
• Brianna Copeland pitched five innings, giving up three hits and striking out six for the win.
Game 2: Indiana 7, Western Illinois 1
Key Moments
• Cora Bassett led off the game with a double to center field. Brittany Ford singled to score Bassett and put the Hoosiers up 1-0 in the first inning.
• In the second inning Tatum Hayes singled and stole second base. Kinsey Mitchell singled to score Hayes and put IU up 2-0.
• The Hoosiers broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning.

• The Hoosiers added five stolen bases against Western Illinois for a total of 13 over the two games.
• Indiana now has 39 stolen bases through 11 games this season.
• Macy Montgomery pitched a complete game to get the win for the Hoosiers.
• The Hoosiers recorded 12 hits and had four players they each had two hits (Bassett, Ford, Hayes and Mitchell).
