
Hoosiers Run Win Streak to Four Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana baseball program moved its winning streak to four games with a 11-2 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday (March 9) evening at Bart Kaufman Field.
A second inning run for Indiana (6-6) got the scoring started and IU added two in the fourth and one in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead. Purdue Fort Wayne (0-12) got on the board with a single run in the sixth inning, but IU added three more in the bottom half of the inning and four more in the seventh inning to build an 11-1 lead. The Mastodons added one more in the eighth to account for the final margin.
The offense continued to put up runs with its fifth double-digit run output in the last eight games. IU out-hit PFW 14-5, with five of those hits going for extra bases, walked six times and reached via hit-by-pitch twice. On the mound, the Hoosiers struck out 10 batters to mark its seventh double-digit strikeout game of the season.
Redshirt-junior Matthew Ellis hit a pair of home runs and drove in three RBIs. It is the second multi-home run game of the season for the left-handed hitter and his fourth multi-RBI game of the season. Freshman Josh Pyne hit a home run for the second straight game and drove in three RBIs. Redshirt-sophomore Morgan Colopy and freshman Brock Tibbitts each chipped in three hits and scored three runs.
Redshirt-sophomore starting pitcher Jack Walker (1-0) earned his first career victory in his first career start with three scoreless innings of work. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out one. Freshman Ryan Kraft tossed the next three innings and allowed one run with three strikeouts over three innings.
Redshirt-sophomore David Platt made his season debut with one scoreless inning and a pair of strikeouts. The right-hander was appearing in a game for the first time since March 11, 2020, marking 728 days between appearances.
For Purdue Fort Wayne, Brian Erbe and Jack Lang accounted for the lone RBIs and Braedon Blackford reached base three times for the Mastodons. Rex Sills (0-1) took the loss with one run allowed in two innings of work in the start. All seven PFW pitchers that appeared in the game allowed at least one run.

After Tibbitts moved to third on a wild pitch, Carter Mathison walked and Peter Serruto plated the second run of the inning with a sacrifice bunt. Mathison eventually stole third base and scored on a wild pitch.
