Mark It Up
Five Hoosiers either improved on their mark or freshly entered the top-10 IU All-Time list this past weekend at the Indiana Invitational. Antonio Laidler is No. 5 in the 100m after clocking a time of 10.27. Hannah Stoffel remains sixth in the 1500m but saw a season best time of 4:17.23 to improve her mark. After securing the school record in the discus, Jayden Ulrich is No. 6 in the shot put with a personal record of 17.07m (56' 0"). Makayla Hunter moved up a spot to sixth in the javelin with her throw of 45.35m (148' 9"). Records Are Meant to be Broken
In front of the home crowd, two Hoosier women broke program records in their respective events. Paola Fernandez-Sola kicked off the meet in style when she leaped a mark of 6.61m (21' 8.25") in the long jump which was a school and personal record. She went on to win the event and is No. 3 in the East Region and No. 7 in the country. Under the lights, Jayden Ulrich stepped into the discus ring and launched a mark of 57.21m (187' 8") which was another school record. She won the event and is No. 2 in the East and No. 11 in the NCAA so far this season.
Defending the Wheel
It had been a long time coming in 2019 when the women's 4x800m captured the first Penn Relays Championship of America wheel in program history on the women's side. They will look to defend that championship wheel when they toe the line with a new crop of Hoosiers on Friday.
Former Hoosiers, Joely Pinkston, Haley Harris, Mallory Mulzer, and Kelsey Harris laid down a perfect race to win the relay in a time of 8:33.57 and take the victory lap around Franklin Field. This was the first relay wheel claimed under Head Coach Ron Helmer.
Looking at East Prelims
On May 25-28 Indiana will play host to the 2022 East Preliminary Round. To qualify for the prelims, an individual must be in the top-48 of their respective events. On the relay side, a quartet must be in the top-32 of their relay event.
Six Hoosiers currently rank in the top-10 of their respective events. Jayden Ulrich sits at No. 2 in the discus and No. 9 in the shot put while Maddy Pollard is No. 6 in the shot put. Paola Fernandez Sola is No. 3 in the long jump and Bailey Hertenstein is eighth in both the 1500m and 5000m. Tyler Carrel and Nathan Stone are currently tied for eighth in the men's pole vault.
