Merchent Tied for Ninth Individually
FRENCH LICK, Ind. – The Indiana men's golf team sits in seventh place after 18 holes at the 2022 Big Ten Men's Golf Championship. The Hoosiers shot a 5-over 293 at The Pete Dye Course on Friday.
In the team standings, Michigan State leads the way through 18 holes at 12-under (276). Wisconsin (284; -4), Illinois (286; -2) and Purdue (287; -1) were the remaining teams to play under par in the first round.

CHIP-INS
• Sophomore Clay Merchent continued his brilliant play from last weekend with a team-best 71 (-1) in the opening round of the Big Ten Championship. He played three birdies in the round, all coming in his final 12 holes. Merchent is tied for ninth heading into the second round.
• Fifth-year senior Ethan Shepherd knocked down a team-high five birdies during his opening round 73 (+1). He scattered the five conversions with three coming in his final nine holes of play.
• Senior Harry Reynolds finished the first round at 2-over 74 with three birdies, including two on the back nine to help close out his round.
• Sophomore Drew Salyers turned in a scorecard of 3-over 75 on Friday. His round consisted of two birdies, including a chip-in effort from 15 yards aways on the first hole.
• Senior Mitch Davis pieced together back-to-back birdies on No. 10 and 11 before finishing the day at 5-over 77.
