Hoosiers Fall in Series Opener to Illinois

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana fell in extra innings to Illinois, 6-4 on Friday at Andy Mohr Field.

Key Moments
- Cora Bassett recorded a single in the first at-bat for the Hoosiers. Brittany Ford doubled to deep center to score Bassett, putting Indiana in the lead 1-0.
- A leadoff walk from Lindsey Warick started the second inning. Tatum Hayes stepped in to pinch run and eventually stole all second and third and scored on a wild pitch.
- Paige Berkmeyer hit a sacrifice fly into right field to score Miranda Gallardo for the Illini, cutting the Indiana lead to 2-1.
- Taylor Minnick singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Ford hit a two-run home run over the left-field wall to increase the Indiana lead to 4-1.
- Kelly Ryono reached a double on an error, scoring two runs for Illinois. Kailee Powell hit a double into left-center field to score Ryono, evening the score at four runs.
- Illinois scored when Ryono hit a single to drive in Stevie Meade to open the frame in extra innings. Ryono stole home on a wild pitch to improve the Illini lead to 6-4.
- Indiana drops to 25-18, 8-10 on the season. Illinois improved to 31-16, 13-4.
- Brittany Ford recorded her ninth home run of the year. The Hoosiers have now hit 54 home runs on the season.
- Ford went 3-for-4 with three RBI, and one home run.
- Tatum Hayes (2) and Aaliyah Andrews (1) and Cora Bassett (1) tallied stolen bases for the Hoosiers. Indiana has now stolen 104 bases on the season.
