Indiana Women’s Tennis Hosts Penn State, Travels to Northwestern

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team will play a home match against Penn State and a road match at Northwestern this week.

Last week the Hoosiers won a 4-2 match over rival Purdue. The Hoosiers have now won two of their last three conference matches. Purdue won the doubles point, but the Hoosiers came back to win four singles matches. Winning singles matches for the Hoosiers were: Lara Schneider, Laura Masic, Alexandra Staiculescu and Mila Mejic.
Penn State is 2-3 in Big Ten play with wins over Michigan State and Iowa. The Northwestern Wildcats are a perfect 6-0 in conference matches this season.
Indiana has posted a record of 48-43 in dual match singles play. Lara Schneider is 11-4 on the season in singles and Staiculescu is 10-4. In doubles the Hoosiers are 20-23 combined, with Schneider and Masic leading the way at 8-7.
The Hoosiers return six players and added transfer Lara Schneider after she completed her freshman season at Florida State.
Schneider was ranked No. 25 in the 2020 class in the Tennis Recruiting Network and a five-star recruit. She graduated from Wando High School in 2020 and was ranked No. 1 in the girls 16 age division USTA South Region rankings in 2018.
Schneider and teammate Laura Masic went a perfect 6-0 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship in the fall and qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego.
