
Hoosiers Look to Compete at NCAA East Preliminary Round On Home Turf

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the first time in 10 years, Indiana Track & Field plays host to the 2022 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Round. The Hoosiers have 27 entries to the meet that will run from Wednesday, May 25 to Saturday, May 28.

Last Time Out: Big Ten Championships
The last time the Hoosiers were in action was at the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Minnesota. Jayden Ulrich won the women's discus while Nathan Stone was the other individual event winner in the pole vault. On the track, seven men and Hannah Stoffel on the women's side, advanced to the final of their respective event. Stoffel collected three points for Indiana after qualifying for the final in the 800m and 1500m. Rikkoi Brathwaite picked up the silver medal in the 100m while Shaton Vaughn came in fifth in the 400m hurdles. Kenny Benton advanced to the final in both the 200m and 400m. He was eighth in the 400m. Benton along with Brathwaite, JaiQuan Earls, and Antonio Laidler picked up the bronze medal in the 4x100m relay with a season best time of 39.95. In the field, Paola Fernandez Sola (long jump) and Sean Mockler (hammer) captured bronze medals in their respective events. Maddy Pollard was fourth in the shot put and her teammate Ulrich came in seventh after capturing gold in the discus. Anna Watson cleared a season best height of 4.18m (13' 8.5") to place fifth in the pole vault. Jyles Etienne and Grayson Rolen went four-five in the high jump. They both cleared a height of 2.14m (7' 0.25"). Rounding out the field events was Tyler Carrel who also competed in the pole vault where he placed fourth with a clearance of 5.35m (17' 6.5").
Bringing Home the Hardware
On her final throw in the finals, Jayden Ulrich launched the disc a mark of 59.01m (193' 7") to win the women's discus event. The other Big Ten Champion for the Hoosiers was Nathan Stone who, in a jump off, was triumphant with a clearance of 5.40m (17' 8.5").
All-Big Ten Honorees
Three Hoosiers collected All-Big Ten Honors at outdoor Big Ten Championships. Jayden Ulrich (Discus) and Nathan Stone (Pole Vault) earned All-Big Ten First Team accolades. Rikkoi Brathwaite took home All-Big Ten Second Team honors after capturing second in the 100m final.
Mark It Up
Two Hoosiers made their mark on the IU record book at the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Jayden Ulrich improved on her school record in the discus with a throw of 59.01m (193' 7"). Shaton Vaughn is No. 6 in the men's 400m hurdles after going a time of 51.01 in the prelims at Big Tens.
Prelim Snapshot
This weekend Indiana will host the 2022 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Round. To qualify for the prelims, an individual must be in the top-48 of their respective events. On the relay side, a quartet must be in the top-32 of their relay event.
24 Hoosiers are set to compete in the prelims in the respective events. A handful of those athletes are slated in the top-15.
