Lazor, Looze Ready for Weekend at Duel in the Pool

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana swimming and diving senior Mackenzie Looze and Indiana Swim Club's Annie Lazor are set to compete in the Duel in the Pool this weekend in Sydney, Australia.
The three-day event, beginning Friday (Aug. 19) and running through Sunday (Aug. 21) features top swimming talent from the United States and Australia in a head-to-head competition. The event can be streamed live on www.usaswimming.org/watch each of the final two days beginning at 5 a.m. ET, coinciding with the beginning of pool events.
Looze is coming off a fantastic meet at the Phillips 66 National Championships where she won the 200-meter breaststroke national title to help Indiana Swim Club lead the field in both the women's and combined scoring. In her title event, Looze swam over two seconds better than her previous standard, going 2:25.35. Looze also finished sixth in the 100 breast (1:08.61), ninth in the 200 IM (2:13.41), 11th in the 400 IM (4:43.88) and 21st in the 200 fly (2:13.90).
Lazor competed for Team USA earlier this summer at the 2022 FINA World Championships, where she finished 13th in the 50-meter breaststroke (30.89). At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Lazor earned a bronze medal in the 200-meter event.
Looze had strong performances in the world championships qualifying event, the Phillips 66 International Team Trials, in April. She reached the A final in all four events she swam and earned top-five finishes in the 200 IM (2:13.28) and 400 IM (4:44.95). A five-time All-American, Looze has qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of her four seasons at IU.
