BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana head coach Kayla Bashore has announced the return of Jill Dedman to the Field Hockey coaching staff as an interim assistant coach.
"Jill brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from her time as a former National Team player and collegiate coach," Bashore said. "She will make an immediate impact on our goalkeepers. Not only does Jill elevate our performance on the field, but she was also adored by her former players here at IU and loves this program as much as Dani (Castro) and I. We're ecstatic about her joining our staff for the fall season and are grateful for her continual dedication to the Indiana Field Hockey program.
Dedman previously coached on the Indiana staff as an assistant in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
In those seasons, Dedman helped lead the team to two 10-win seasons and a 26-16 cumulative record, including a standout 2009 season, when the Hoosiers were 16-7 and made the NCAA Tournament.
While overseeing Indiana's goalkeeper play, she helped senior Alex Mann record a fantastic season in the cage, notching 82 saves across 21 games played.
Dedman has also been a collegiate coach as an assistant at the University of Albany for three seasons from 2004-2006, and at the University of California, Berkeley for the 2011 season.
Outside of the college ranks, Dedman was a Goalkeeper Specialist for the Canadian National Team and in their U-21 Training Camps in 2018.
"I am looking forward to coaching the season alongside Kayla Bashore and Dani Castro, two amazing coaches and great people who I respect on and off the field," Dedman said. "I am happy that my business, Blockstar Field Hockey, affords me flexibility to join the staff for the season. My previous time coaching at IU was a highlight ––– such a positive experience with the entire IU community. I am excited for the experience with new leadership, a new team and the supportive and fun vibe that I enjoyed years ago that is at the core of IU Athletics."
Dedman also enjoyed an outstanding playing career as a goalie. She began playing field hockey in high school at Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, Conn. where she led the school to its first ever state championship and was named Athlete of the Year for the 1995-96 school year.
From there, she attended Boston College and put together an outstanding career that landed her in the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2010.
As a keeper for the Eagles, Dedman compiled numerous accolades including career totals of 3,211 minutes played, a 1.42 goals against average rating (GAA), a 27-18 record and 398 career saves. In her junior year, she was named a Northeast Regional All-American, the Big East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and was listed on the All-Big East First Team. As a senior, she was again named a Northeast Regional All-American, earned Third-Team All-American honors and was on the Second Team All-Big East Squad.
Following her collegiate career, she was a goalkeeper for the USA National Team for eight years in both indoor and outdoor competition. She most notably was named to the 2002 Women's World Hockey Cup Team in Perth, Australia.
Dedman competed in international competition in Germany, Netherlands, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Azerbaijan, Argentina and Canada throughout the course of her career.
While playing on the USA National Team, she was a teammate to Indiana Field Hockey Head Coach Kayla Bashore.
