Hoosiers Sweep Indiana State 3-0 to Open 2022 Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Volleyball returned to Bloomington on Friday evening in grand fashion as Indiana (1-0, 0-0) defeated Indiana State (0-1, 0-0) in straight sets at Wilkinson Hall.
Sophomore setter Camryn Haworth recorded her first double-double of the season with 33 assists and a career-high 22 digs to pace the Hoosiers to a clean sweep of Indiana State.
Fellow sophomore Mady Saris tallied 13 kills to lead IU offensively while senior middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg and freshman outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles added nine each.
A commanding 25-11 opening set victory was followed by gritty 25-23 and 25-20 wins to close out the Sycamores in straight sets.
In their collegiate debuts, Alonso-Corcelles and right-side Melisa Ilter were tabbed as starters for the Hoosiers, providing production in each rotation.
Junior defensive specialist Isa Lopez made her Hoosier debut, appearing in all three sets.
IU will play two matches tomorrow to close out the Indiana Invitational. A Saturday morning showdown with Chicago State (0-1) will be followed with a 7:00 PM feature with Jacksonville State (1-0).
KEY MOMENTS
• The Hoosiers started the opening set on a 15-5 run, with back-to-back kills from Camryn Haworth and a service ace from Savannah Kjolhede helping IU out to an early advantage.
• IU closed out the opening set on a 6-1 run with kills from Mady Saris and a resounding service ace from Paula Cerame.
• Down 18-17 in the second set, IU received a kill from Candela Alonso-Corcelles and a service ace from Kjolhede to retain the lead for good. The Hoosiers eventually closed out the set 25-23.
• Back-to-back kills from Alonso-Corcelles provided a much-needed spark for the Hoosiers in the final set, extending their lead to 20-17 and taking back the momentum.
• Saris provided the final punch on Friday night, a kill off an assist from Cerame to close out the Sycamores in straight sets.
