Indiana Volleyball Finishes Off Chicago State in Straight Sets

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Volleyball team (2-0, 0-0) used a well-balanced day offensively to turn away Chicago State (0-2) on Saturday morning at Wilkinson Hall.
A season after losing to the Cougars, IU reversed fortunes this year, downing Chicago State in straight sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.
Paced by Camryn Haworth's double-double (26 assists and 11 digs) and Savannah Kjolhede's day offensively (8 kills, .727 hitting percentage), the Hoosiers battled to their second victory of the season.
Five Hoosiers provided at least five kills to aid the offensive attack. Along with Haworth and Kjolhede, Candela Alonso-Corcelles, Mady Saris and Kaley Rammelsberg each tallied five-plus kills on the evening.
KEY MOMENTS:
• Down 6-9 in the first set, IU went on a 4-0 run to take the lead 10-9; sparked by back-to-back kills from Candela Alonso-Cordelles.
• Following a first-set timeout, the Hoosiers end the opener on a 4-2 run behind a kill from Melisa Ilter and two from Savannah Kjolhede.
• With Emily Fitzner serving, the Hoosiers went on a 4-0 run in the second set to take a 19-14 lead. A series of three-straight points with kills from Mady Saris, Camryn Haworth and Savannah Kjolhede saw the Hoosiers strengthen their advantage.
• Camryn Haworth assisted on the final two kills of the set, sent down by Mady Saris and Kaley Rammelsberg.
• After going down 19-20 in the third set, IU closed out the third on a 5-3 run to finish off the Cougars in straight sets.
